Indira Elias continues Season XX.
Elias’s (@indira__elias ) practice moves between songwriting, composition, and visual world-building, where voice, piano, and atmosphere operate as closely considered elements of the same system. With work shaped by restraint and with a sharp attention to detail, Elias often builds songs from sparse melodic ideas that gradually open into immersive, cinematic environments.
Her latest release, ‘Through My Own Eyes’, extends this approach. The EP sits between folk-inflected writing and experimental ambient textures, shaped by her time in Paris and continued work within Sydney’s collaborative music community. Tracks unfold with a focus on tone, space, and vocal presence, where emotion is carried through pacing and sonic texture rather than excess. Across the release, Elias continues to refine a sound-first practice — one that privileges atmosphere, intuition, and carefully constructed simplicity, holding each element in deliberate relation to the next.

OK EG opened Season XX.
OK EG (@okegmusic ), the multidisciplinary music project of Naarm / Melbourne-based artists Lauren Squire and Matthew Wilson, works across ambient, dub and experimental electronics. The duo develop material through live systems where composition emerges through interaction, repetition and gradual shift — “something that was completely ours,” as Matt describes of the pair’s recently launched label, GEKO.
The performance brought together material from ‘Silent Green’ alongside unreleased ambient works, unfolding less as discrete tracks than as a slow-moving environment. Delicate electronics, restrained rhythmic structures and drifting frequencies moved patiently through the Nest, stretching time and atmosphere in subtle increments.
Reflecting on a formative early performance, Matt recalls a 2019 Pleasure Planet closing party at Melbourne’s Lounge as “the proof of concept of the system that we use now.” At the time, the duo were still developing the live approach that would come to define their practice — testing new material in real time, extending tracks through instinct and response. As Lauren reflects, the experience “gave us opportunity to really try things.”

We are deeply saddened to share the news that rising South African soprano Khayakazi Madlala has unexpectedly passed away. A member of Cape Town Opera through Judith Neilson’s Rising Star program, Khayakazi was a remarkable talent whose voice and presence were already resonating on an international stage.
Hailing from Matatiele, she was widely recognised as one of South Africa’s most compelling young singers, in the midst of shaping an international career. Earlier this year, she made her Royal Opera House debut as the High Priestess in Verdi’s ‘Aida’, following performances across Europe, including at Malmö Opera House. Her operatic work also saw her take on leading roles such as Mimì in Puccini’s ‘La Bohème’, performed at Joburg Theatre and Durban Playhouse.
We extend our condolences to her family, loved ones, and the Cape Town Opera community.
A new release, ‘The Joys of Being Pure at Heart (Live at Phoenix Central Park)’ captures Hachiku’s (@hachikumusic ) Anika Ostendorf, in a luminous live performance.
Recorded on 13 November 2025 as part of Season XVIII, the set draws from her latest album—layered guitars, soft percussion, and Ostendorf’s intimate vocal drifting through the Nest.
