[STAMPS! 94 Unique Stamps; Graphics & Typography] is a typology project based on the collection of stamps I gathered over my childhood. Back then, I loved the hobby but never paid much attention to the details each stamp had. Revisiting them now as a design student, I see how each stamp holds careful lettering, playful imagery, bold palettes and micro-scale compositions that come together to create a unique and interesting design.
This project highlights these tiny artifacts as a collection of graphic design inspiration, inviting others to appreciate their craft, detail and charm.
I will be selling the A3 Risograph Poster and Risograph Keychains under @prypress at @tokyoartbookfair from 19-21 December, and will be taking Singapore based orders too!

Palimpsest
Type: Experimental Typography
Year: 2024
Palimpsest is a typeface designed for an open-ended experimental type workshop. The brief asked for a complete set of uppercase and lowercase letterforms built around a self-directed concept that prioritises the visual and conceptual translation of an idea over legibility, leaving room for genuine experimentation.
Palimpsest aims to explore the paradox of identity and transformation through the lens of the Ship of Theseus. By deconstructing and reconstructing letterforms using modular elements from subsequent letters, this project questions: At what point does a letter cease to be itself?
The foundation of this system is a geometric base alphabet broken down into six distinct modules. Governed by a set of strict rules, each letter is formed using only the modules of the following letter, ensuring that the number of components remains constant while allowing shifts in size, angle, and position. This structured yet evolving process mirrors the concept of a palimpsestāwhere traces of the past persist within the altered formāblurring the boundaries between continuity and change in typographic design.
Palimpsest is built on a modular system derived from six fundamental stroke types, straight and curved, that form a base alphabet. Each letter is then constructed from the modules of the letter that follows it, with size, angle, position, and rotation as the only variables.

Merlion Does Not Come Out
Type: Experimental Photography
Year: 2026
Merlion Does Not Come Out was produced for an open-ended creative workshop exploring experimental photography, with an emphasis on thinking outside the box to convey stories, emotions and concepts.
Queer means strange before it means anything elseāand the Merlion, a lion-fish hybrid that should not exist, is perhaps Singaporeās most queer figure. Yet it has been so thoroughly absorbed into the nationās symbolic order that its strangeness is no longer legible as strangeness. This is the logic the project interrogates: the stateās capacity to instrumentalise that which falls outside the norm, rendering it monumental, managed, and safe. Merlion Does Not Come Out uses the Merlion as a structural metaphor for the condition of queerness in Singapore: permitted only when contained, depoliticised, and made to serve. The repeal of Section 377A is emblematic of this logic ārecognition extended without redistribution, acceptance without structural change.
The project refuses those terms. Queer existence in Singapore is tolerated only insofar as it remains legible to, and unthreatening of, a conservative state. Merlion Does Not Come Out insists on the right to exist outside the stateās frame āon terms that belong to the community itself.
Two image types run throughout the book, integrated rather than separated: lens-based film photography using long exposures and double exposures, and photogramsācameraless images made by placing objects directly on photosensitive paper. The first represents queerness as seen through a literal lens: mediated, framed, controlled, growing progressively less stable as the book progresses. The second refuses the lens entirely, bypassing the apparatus of the gaze at the level of process. All images are in black and whiteācolour withheld as formal enactment of the projectās argument: presence is permitted, expression is not.
