The making of Magnet 🧲
It’s been out maybe a month? Wow! This song had quite a lot of versions, and I really didn’t know what it should sound like for a while. It started on my notes app in the woods, then it was a punky-rock track, then I slowed it down to half time and put a chorus on the bass and here we are. Here’s some process. As usual I feel so flippin lucky when I hear the band bring it to life on stage. And I think it’s my first guitar solo? lol
When @matthewmcguchan wanted to do a stop-motion astronaut sequence I was like “yea I’m definitely your gal” and the rest is history and the talent of an amazing director and crew - check the video out if you haven’t already.

Hey Norwich, very exciting show! @phoebe_ & band + @emberschoir at the @norwichartscentre on 02.04.26
Embers are a Norwich-based choir. They stoke the fire of traditional folk and sing songs from all over Europe; raucous village harmonies from Bulgaria, epic Georgian rounds and evocative Corsican Paghjellas to name a few.
Phoebe Troup is a UK-based singer-songwriter and producer from Colorado, US. Phoebe makes DIY alt-folk, rock, and art-pop, taking inspiration from encounters with landscape, mythology & art. She plays live with a five-piece band.
Undine is out today.
I can’t believe it! I wrote it three years ago, I was trying to square a lot of circles. How come what you mean to say to someone doesn’t come out in what you say means to someone.
Written, performed & produced by me with
@kyle_klaverstyn : bass guitar
@davidpye_ : mix
Eric James: master

Divine Schism and Diminishing Returns are excited to collaborate with slow-core Bristol quartet swelt on their London album launch next month at the Horse Hospital - Sat 21st March.
swelt are celebrating the release of their debut LP ‘Bones’ with legendary US guitarist and songwriter Victor Villarreal (Cap’n Jazz, Owls, Joan of Arc and more!) and British-American lo-fi folk artist Phoebe Troup.
The night will be a delight of interesting song - Victor’s solo work blends intricate finger-style guitar with meditative, rhythm-driven songwriting and Phoebe’s DIY alt-folk/rock/art-pop sound takes inspiration from encounters with landscape, art and mythology. A perfect blend alongside swelt’s lo-fi part-folk, part post-rock, part-Dirty Three soundscapes!
Tickets on sale at £8-£12 sliding scale and no one turned away for lack of funds either! Get on it London! #divineschism #livemusic #london
