Some details: The statue is 26cm tall. The skull already existed as I sadly didn't have the time to make it myself. I 3D scanned it using the free photogrammetry software Meshroom and sent it over to Blender wizard @niklas.shots to fit it into the cup. I then printed the parts separately in resin and applied faux gold leaf (brass) onto it, which probably took the longest. The malachite rings were made with FIMO (polymer clay) and then baked in little cups I printed with heat-resistant filament. Then a lot of sanding and finally 3 clear coats of varnish.
The project took longer than I had anticipated but I'm very happy with the results. And it's for a good cause, too!

Wie kommt ein Land in der Wüste, dessen 2,7 Millionen Einwohner nur zu 11% aus eigentlichen BürgerInnen besteht und bis vor wenigen Jahren noch gar nicht die Infrastruktur hierfür hatte, an die WM 2022?
Durch Zwangsarbeit, Korruption und Menschenrechtsverletzungen. Ein Großteil dieser EinwohnerInnen sind GastarbeiterInnen, wobei Gast das falsche Wort ist. Während Katar nur 3 angibt, geht der Guardian von 6.500 getöteten GastarbeiterInnen aus, die Dunkelziffer könnte noch höher liegen. Den ArbeiterInnen werden oft die Pässe abgenommen und mit Knebelverträgen gebunden. Die riesigen Unterkünfte sind katastrophal und inhuman.
Darüber hinaus sieht es allgemein schlecht aus mit Menschenrechten. Jegliche LGBTQ+ Identitäten und Handlungen sind verboten. Der WM-Botschafter von Katar spricht in einem ZDF-Interview hierzu von einem “Geistigen Schaden”.
Doch auch außerhalb von Katar muss man schauen. Die Funktionäre der FIFA missbrauchen den Sport, um ihre eigenen Konten zu füllen. Der DFB kann nicht mal eine bunte Binde durchziehen. Selbst eine Vizepräsidentin des EU Parlaments ließ sich bestechen und rüttelt an unserer Demokratie.
Ich rufe hiermit zum Spenden auf. Die Spenden laufen nicht über mich, sondern werden direkt zum European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights (ECCHR) geleitet. Der Zahlungsdienstleister PayPal übernimmt die Gebühren.
Das ECCHR ist eine gemeinnützige Menschenrechtsorganisation, die neben Aufklärungsarbeit vor allem auf juristischem Wege versucht, Menschenrechte durchzusetzen. Ziel sind hierbei sowohl staatliche als auch nichtstaatliche Akteure.

Telephone clock for my phone collecting dad! I based this design on the famous Tischfernsprecher W48, one of the most iconic German telephones and a design classic. The ivory colored variant in particular is just beautiful. It was quite a challenge translating it into a more two-dimensional shape while maintaining the aesthetic.
Maple, finished with linseed oil.

End grain cutting board with ginkgo leaf inlays for my mom! This was my first time making a cutting board. It involved A LOT of cutting and gluing, but the durability of end grain is worth it. Woods are cherry, maple and walnut and finished with a mixture of bee's wax and carnauba wax dissolved in white oil.

I built simple big planter boxes for growing tomatoes and cucumbers! They're constructed without any glue or fasteners, inspired by log houses. Growing them close to the house protects them from rain and wind.
