I had the pleasure of catching up with @lagroney last week and she brought me a copy of our cover story for Wharton Magazine from some time ago but I’d never had the chance to see in print until now. Portraits of Anthony Noto, CEO of SoFi - I believe the whole shoot was sub-15 mins. I always love seeing the hard copies and of course beautiful design by @pentagramdesign making my photos look good. 👏 Print mag flip through in the last slide ➡️

Two recent(ish) cover shoots for @cityandstateny - outgoing city council speaker Adrienne Adams at the end of last year, followed up by the incoming Council Speaker Julie Menin at the start of this year. It was great to have the opportunity from @ahortonart to follow the same visual thread and really connect these two stories, a somewhat rare opportunity for a true follow up shoot. Thanks to @benbittonphoto for the fantastic help on these.

It’s a little embarrassing realizing that I’ve only posted six times since my last “I have a photo in American Photography” post a year ago. Despite what it may seem, I am shooting a lot of new work, and had one of the busiest winters/early springs of my career. Just the vast majority of it sits unshared. For that, please accept my apologies. Another factor of my embarrassment for this post is that the image selected for this year’s American Photography 42 book is from a series I still haven’t shared publicly in any meaningful way. So it may come out of context, but the selected image is from a series I was shooting last year and the year prior on a town with large scale greenhouse agriculture nearby. The grow houses use bright magenta lights and in the winter hours run all night long. With low clouds or hazy conditions, the light from uncovered greenhouses can bounce off of the clouds creating an uncanny, extremely vivid magenta glow. More on this series to come. All that embarrassment aside, I’m thrilled to have image selected to be printed alongside the work of so many incredibly talented photographers in AP42 for yet another year. Thanks @american_photography_winners and this year’s jury! #americanphotogrpahy #ai-ap #ap42

59,141 people doing something really hard. And all of NYC cheering them on. Sunday’s NYC Marathon. Well done, New York. Slide 2: Benson Kipruto, men’s winner. Slide 4: Women’s Elite runner Vivian Cheruiyot. Slide 6: The crowd helps out a woman who fell on the course.

Monica’s buttons and thread. The buttons were all sorted by color and kept in Jim’s leftover cigar boxes on a custom-made shelf. Seems like multiple lifetimes worth of buttons.

Jim’s sugar collection. Part 1. It’s strange leaving behind things when you die. He probably knew the story behind each sugar packet. Now we can only wonder.

This year’s @american_photography_winners is the first I’ve had two images selected for the book. Really honored to have my work appear printed alongside that of so many amazing photographers’. This second image was from the NYC marathon in November, as the leading pack of elite runners passed me in Greenpoint. The athleticism of these runners is just incredible to see in person. And, hopefully, in photo form as well. #AP41

I’m excited to share that I’ve had TWO images selected for this year’s American Photography photo annual book, AP41! @american_photography_winners It’s always such an honor to have my work appear printed alongside the work of true legends of the photography world, including those I’ve looked up to even before I decided to give this silly career a try. — This first image was shot (on my birthday) last May for @nbcnews of boxer Kathreen “Kat” Sterling during her attempt to qualify for the Paris Olympics. Thanks to @whitneyhollingtonmatewe for the awesome assignment.
