Founded in 1911, the house stands among the last great French cabinetmaking workshops, where craftsmanship is not a legacy to preserve, but a practice to evolve. Rooted in Normandy, the atelier combines traditional techniques with advanced technologies, shaping bespoke furniture and interiors for some of the most demanding projects worldwide. Because true value is not immediate, it is built through precision, through material, through time. Each piece carries the trace of a gesture, the discipline of a process, and the intention to last. Fondée en France en 1911, la maison PHILIPPE HUREL reste aujourd’hui une maison d’ébénisterie familiale, désormais portée par sa quatrième génération. Notre atelier est né de la grande tradition française de l’ébénisterie, où le savoir-faire se transmet avant tout par la pratique. Aujourd’hui, les gestes artisanaux cohabitent avec la CAO avancée, des machines de précision et une organisation de production structurée. Juste à côté de notre atelier actuel, nous avons reconstitué un atelier tel qu’il pouvait exister en 1911. Une manière de mettre en lumière des siècles de connaissances passées de mains en mains, d’artisans en artisans. On y retrouve les établis et les outils de l’époque, replacés comme ils l’étaient autrefois. Cet espace témoigne de notre héritage vivant. Notre atelier est aujourd’hui labellisé Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant, une distinction qui récompense les savoir-faire artisanaux et le patrimoine culturel d’exception. — Founded in France in 1911, Maison PHILIPPE HUREL remains a family-run cabinetmaking house, now led by its fourth generation. Our workshop was born from the great French tradition of cabinetmaking, where know-how is passed down through practice. Today, traditional craftsmanship exists alongside advanced CAD, precision machinery, and highly structured production planning. Right next to our current workshop, we have recreated a workshop as it might have existed in 1911. A way to highlight centuries of knowledge passed from hand to hand, from artisan to artisan. You will find the workbenches and tools of the time, arranged as they once were. This space reflects our living heritage. Today, our workshop is certified “Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant”, a distinction that recognizes exceptional artisanal expertise and cultural heritage.

You don’t truly understand a piece until you’ve seen it being made.   What a special day spent at our workshop in France with a group of London-based designers.   From raw materials to finished pieces, there’s nothing quite like experiencing craftsmanship up close — understanding the time, precision, and skill behind every detail.   A big thank you to the teams at @avroko , @hgdstudio , @katharinepooleyltd , @m_b_d_s , @obminternational , and @winchdesign_wd for being part of this visit. Le bois travaillé à la gouge La gouge est un outil traditionnel d’ébénisterie qui permet de sculpter la surface du bois en y creusant de légers sillons. Réalisé à la main, ce travail donne au bois une texture vivante, qui capte la lumière et révèle toute la beauté de la matière. Très présent dans le mobilier du XXe siècle, ce savoir-faire ancien est devenu l’une des signatures de la Maison PHILIPPE HUREL. Depuis 1911, notre maison familiale d’ébénisterie française perpétue ce geste artisanal, où chaque pièce est travaillée une à une par nos artisans. Cette technique est notamment utilisée ici pour la table basse MANTA. Venez la découvrir, parmi d’autres pièces, lors de la Design Week de Milan. Crafted entirely by hand, this technique gives the wood a lively texture that catches the light and reveals the full beauty of the material. Widely present in 20th-century furniture, this traditional craftsmanship has become one of the signatures of the PHILIPPE HUREL House. Since 1911, our family-run French cabinetmaking house has preserved this artisanal gesture, with each piece carefully worked by hand by our craftsmen. This technique is notably used here for the MANTA coffee table. Come and discover it, along with other pieces, during Milan Design Week.
