Introducing Phi Evans.
Phi is a weaver of natural fibres, primarily rush and willow. She creates mats, bowls, baskets, and is keen to work with the natural fibres of landscapes. Her love for working with rush is undiminished, weaving, plaiting, and cording. Her work is functional, beautiful and versatile. Plants can give us so much and we must cherish them.
Weave Only A Trace: An exhibition of basketry, wood and natural fibres. Held in Shrewsbury at St Mary’s Church from 3rd-5th August 2026.

Teaching stone carving is something I love doing, even though it’s a small part of my work. I love passing on skills and having my workshop full of chipping. Since I work a lot on my own, being part of @creativebreakshfds , which I joined a few years ago now, has linked me up with fellow makers and teachers to share, moan, laugh, collaborate, discuss course costings, improve our photography ( a bit ), they are a great bunch and tomorrow Wednesday 29th April we will be at our first 2026 outing at The Spring Fair at Garnons, Byford , Herefordshire raising money for the wonderful @thecartshedcharity …. We will be doing demonstrations and have a go sessions in Suminagashi @sarah_amatt , painting with @deblbunker , stained glass with Nicky Hopwood, rag rugging with @jenniragrugs , rush weaving with @phi.weaves and stone carving with myself ….. Come and find us tomorrow and say hello, it is open from 10.30 to 4 pm

We all heartily enjoyed completing collectively made head piece at today’s last event #motherswithouthands at @aaina.c.hub community centre in #walsall 🪡🩷🪡 Gorgeous and all very different tapestries made by so many loving and skilled women hands…being stitched onto an important head piece as amulets of protection 🪢🌸🪢 and made under the guidance of textile artist and stitch innovator Tina Francis. We have united again with @phi.weaves natural fibre weaver who joined us all the way from Ludlow and we have continued with what we learned in recent Prague’s and Brno’s workshops using hand picked bull rush making crowns of protection in collaboration with @radost_suchdol (Joy for Suchdol, Community Group in Prague-Suchdol), Nadace Veronica led by designer @adamkvacek_
Mariana Novotná arrived last night from Prague, bringing absolutely beautifully crafted costumes for our beloved Mothers - @eliska.salay.kasparova and Daniela Voráčková who are joining us very soon from Prague.
Join us this Saturday 19th July at 2:30 / meeting point outside of The New Art Gallery Walsall for the finale procession of #motherswithouthands - this movement is raising awareness about violence against women and girls and is open to all 🙌

Workshops with @phi.weaves
‘Hi, my name is Phi Evans and I am a weaver of natural fibres such as willow, rush and bark. I am inspired to create by the plants we find around us, in the garden and beyond. I’m absolutely delighted to be part of the ‘Reviving the Wye’ festival and what better way to celebrate it than by weaving with some of the plants that grow along the river. Come along and have a go at weaving a fish out of English rush and my own locally grown willow. Make something beautiful to take home and enjoy the calming process of weaving. Take a meditative moment and capture something of the river magic and the abundance of plant life that grows along the banks.’
