May 17, this International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia (IDAHOBIT), we rise in partnership with LGBTQ+ orgs around the world to amplify the importance of fighting for LGBTQ+ rights globally.
This year’s theme—“At the heart of democracy”—is a reminder of our collective strength.
We’re proud to unite with LGBTQ+ people and their allies around the world in our commitment to creating an equitable and inclusive world where every LGBTQ+ person is safe, celebrated, empowered, and loved.

When my child came out to me almost 10 years ago, I never could have imagined all of the ways it would change my life. One of the most wonderful has been the incredible people I have come to call friends. This month, we see one of those incredible people moving on to a new home and community. Baltimore will be so lucky to have him! Josh P. has been an ally to the St. Louis LGBTQIA+ community in so many ways during his time here.
Over a decade ago, he and a group of local parents and queer folks founded the PFLAG Ferguson chapter. Josh served as president of the chapter until the merger with PFLAG St. Charles and PFLAG St. Louis in 2021. Josh’s technical skills allowed the Ferguson chapter to continue to meet throughout COVID and he has continued to facilitate our virtual meetings with empathy, kindness, and love since then. Post merger, he served as our chapter secretary for almost 5 years. As a member of our board, Josh was always thoughtful, involved, and generous with his time.
Finally, Josh brought a unique perspective, sharing his faith and personal beliefs when parents and others needed support navigating their own. He exemplifies for many of us what a truly good faith leader is.
From all of us at PFLAG Greater St. Louis, please join us in thanking our friend Josh for all he has given us in St. Louis and wishing him all the best in his new home. If you send a message, we’ll be sure he gets it.

Every dollar helps us:
• Offer support – We keep our costs very low for support group meetings, but there are some.
• Speak to local audiences – Our parent volunteers speak regularly to community organizations, businesses, government service providers, professional organizations, and other groups reaching hundreds of people with information about sexual orientation and gender identity, how to support LGBTQ+ loved ones and community members, and the unique issues the LGBTQ+ community faces.
• Participate in local events – Throughout the year, we connect with so many people at events like the Ritenour Kiwanis’ Equity Day, St. Charles Equity Fair, Pride Is Alive, and Tower Grove Pride.
• Develop future programming on topics you care about.
• Increase our visibility in Jefferson City when relevant legislation is being considered.
• Expand our outreach efforts in schools and faith communities.
