Day 23: my grandfather loved Pinocchio. He had just passed away when I was offered the chance to work on Matteo Garrone’s adaptation.
Thanks to @bidibarroero , who introduced me to VFX supervisor Rodolfo Migliari, who then wanted me on board, I started this wonderfully strange career in film.
Day 22: followed the steps of @matteo_garrone_official ’s film IO CAPITANO from the very beginning: storyboards, concepts and the chance to design the poster as well. A long journey to help tell the story of a much longer one.
Day 21: I closed my eyes and perceived matter itself and saw a twirling sky pulling me toward it, as if the earth were no longer the necessary center of my gravity. A black hole was swallowing all light. And the black hole was an eye, a singularity.
Day 20: I got to conceptually build (and then burn down) some of the beautiful work by production designer @dimitricapuani on Emanuele Crialese’s film L’Immensità.
Day 19: and don’t go into the fields of rye
for there are thousands of crows
gathering
swarming
and hiding the sky
Concept for Niccolò Ammaniti’s original series ANNA
Day 18: strange creatures you may encounter in the woods, a sightless Cat and a crippled Fox. They seem friendly, but they are not.
Designed and developed with @mcoulier for @matteo_garrone_official PINOCCHIO
Day 17: lost myself in a dreamscape while doing some concept renders for production designer @maurovanzati on the beautiful exhibition Horizons/Red by Valentino
Day 16: it turned out the point was never to stay only on the light side, but to keep it in balance with the dark. Lights and shadows create shapes.
Dark alone is just black.
Light alone is just white.
Color is in between.
Day 14: of all the characters I imagined for PINOCCHIO, I happened to be on set the day @mcoulier and his team brought Mangiafuoco’s puppets to life. Pure daydream.
Designed and developed with @mcoulier for @matteo_garrone_official
Day 13: meet Death and the Devil, from my brief adventure in fashion for the beautiful short film Le Château du Tarot by @matteo_garrone_official for DIOR.
