Although not the most prolific poster, this is one that I am incredibly pleased to share and humbled to have had a hand in writing. @ultra_damo and @r_mcgregor are not only incredible human beings and athletes, but their knowledge of training, racing and fuelling is unmatched. It is a huge honour to have had the opportunity to contribute to a book that will undoubtedly go some way toward expanding the running careers of thousands of old buggers like myself and @rushbynature
Found this guy lifeless on the bottom of a swimming pool. Hypoxic for 4-5 minutes in warm water. No heart beat, purple in colour. Chest compressions brought him back. In a coma for three days with suspected brain damage. Awoke on the third day in good health and now living a full life. Eternally thankful to God for placing me somewhere I had no reason to be at that time and for working through me to bring James back to his mother.
Vegas, baby. Holly and @peafunkk bringing home 1st & 2nd place overall, to make @thespeedproject 2025 the year that the women DOMINATED, leaving the first place male trailing by 35 miles. Itās been a wild ride. Time for pancakes.

Medical DNF at Munds Park, due to fever from heat exhaustion, 190 miles in. So cool to have @walmsleyruns stop by the RV to offer some words of support. Thank you especially to @kabukisnyder and @pjotre for flying out to crew and pace these past couple of days on almost no sleep. We are so grateful for you both!
This will be my one training-related post for the year. I love being a coach but am blessed to have zero desire for approval, followers or a ridiculously large bank account. You may (or may not) see my name attached to articles talking about āMy Top 5 Exercises for Runnersā or something similar, but let me tell you this. The specific resistance exercises you choose to bulletproof yourself as a runner are important⦠to a degree. What, however, is infinitely more important is the volume and intensity you select to perform these exercises. Donāt underestimate just how easy and dangerous it is to screw this up. And believe me, if you get it wrong, injury and/or overtraining will come āa knocking!
If you would have laid out 2025 for me, play by play, this time last year, I wouldnāt have believed you for a second. It would have been totally incomprehensible (it still is). Neither of us were equipped to handle the situations we found ourselves in alone and, luckily, we werenāt - at any point. Thank God we made it through intact and hereās to continuing our adventure in 2026!
In a few weeks Iāll be able to say that next year I turn 50.
How wild is that? š³š«£
It honestly feels like five minutes ago I was in my 20s, convinced I was untouchable and had endless time to do everything ālater.ā Back then I thought life would be a constant 9ā5 grind. Earn as much as possible, stay busy, keep climbing. I never imagined Iād slow down enough to enjoy the small, simple moments.
Yesterday we visited Oakhill Ponds in the wet and wind, a proper moody Monday and I genuinely loved it. Younger me wouldāve rushed through something like that, or skipped it entirely. Now I earn less, live intentionally, and somehow feel richer. Time in nature, time with Pete⦠thatās the good stuff.
Here are a few things Iāve learned over the decades:
Time is worth far more than money. Spend it on the people and experiences that actually matter.
Your energy shifts. Work with your body instead of fighting it, life feels a lot better that way.
The friends who stay are the real ones. Quality over quantity every single time.
Your metabolism is not the same creature it was in your 20s. What you eat today shows up tomorrow.
Sleep becomes non negotiable. Those all nighters I bounced back from in my 20s? They would wipe me out for a week now.
Your circle matters. The voices you let in (on and offline) shape your direction. Choose the ones that help you grow and raise your standards.
Saying ānoā gets easier, and way more necessary. Protect your peace.
The opinions of strangers fade into the background. You finally realise whose voices are worth listening to.
Comparison steals joy. Run your own race, at your own pace.
Life is shorter than we think. Stop waiting for the āright moment.ā Go after what matters now.
And finally, get at least one dog. For they are gods creatures, reminding us to slow down, live simply, and love without hesitation š¾
Life is pretty wild sometimes. @pjotre we are so grateful for you and how selfless you have been in capturing this journey for us. Cocodona 250 for the sequel? š
I havenāt shared anything about my current situation on here, but I do know that, whatever happens, everything will be alright. Two full rainbows in the past week, both more beautiful than I think Iāve ever seen.
