Wild Things brings together a collective of acclaimed Western Australian wildlife photographers whose work goes far beyond image-making. Each artist shares their personal connection to the natural world through portfolios of powerful images created over years spent documenting incredible fauna and their habitats. From Perth’s urban fringe and the biodiverse south-west to the remote landscapes of the north and beyond, these photographers capture moments that are fleeting, intimate, and real, inviting viewers to slow down and truly see. United by a shared passion, the collective uses storytelling to create impact. Through their lenses, wildlife moves beyond subject and into a voice for conservation. Their images reveal rarely seen behaviours, highlight endangered species, and bring art and science together. The artists are not only photographers, but educators, guides, and advocates, working alongside conservation groups and using visual storytelling to influence awareness and inspire change. More than just an exhibition, Wild Things is a call to reconnect with the natural world. It reminds us of the beauty, vulnerability, and importance of the environments we share. Each image conveys a story, offering a moment to pause, reflect, and rediscover the wonder of the wild. It’s action stations around here at Perth Pro Lab today, helping wildlife and nature photographer, Ollie Smith @wildlifeandwanderings get ready for his stand at P(ART)icipate: Arts and Culture Festival 2026 in Victoria Park. The event is on Saturday 28 March from 6-9pm at McCallum Park. Ollie’s work is printed on @ilfordimaging 310gsm cotton rag, prints mounted in our awesome ‘ready to go’ matboards. I love presenting print sales this way! The prints look tip top on the stand whilst giving the buyer freedom to remove the print from the mount, take to their framer for bespoke framing or if they prefer, drop it straight into a store bought 11x14in frame.

Working on a new project today with Perth artist, Jody Quackenbush @jodyquackenbush I won’t say too much at this stage, or show more than I should, but follow Jody if you’re keen to see what she’s up to. These are for an upcoming event at Gallery Central in mid May. Giclee prints on @ilfordimaging textured cotton rag 310gsm.

Since I started my own little journey into wildlife photography, two prolific photographers’ names would always show up in my feed, their work I respect enormously. Pretty stoked to print my first few prints for @nonismk & @naidu_kumpatla today, ready for the Save The Wetlands art market on Saturday at Herdsman Lake Nature Discovery Centre from 9am. All three of us will be there! -pj

This post should have been done before now but the week has been bonkers and I’ve been flat out. I’ve been looking after avid music photographer Scott Johnson @45jukebox45 for quite a few years. We often exchange stories of photography and gigs we’ve seen, our catch ups are equal parts yarns and getting photography stuff done! When Scott told me he was making a book of his photography and asked if I could give him a hand digitising film, I was super stoked to help. We opted for camera scans of Scott’s film archive. Camera scanning involves photographing the negatives and transparencies with the high resolution Nikon Z9 and 1:1 Macro lens. A dedicated film digitisation rig is used to keep the film nice and flat for the photo. The beauty of this method is really its speed and efficiency. We were able to shoot through a decade of curated concert shots in no time. This keeps the process super affordable. The results are excellent, as we are able to shoot RAW photos of the film, we can use modern RAW processing techniques to extract a huge dynamic range. Scott tells in the book how we managed to bring back highlights that he thought were gone. 35mm has its limits, especially older film but the book in a grand coffee table format looks great, in no way let down by the digitising. If you’re interested to see, I have a copy of Scott’s book ‘Lucky Man’ on the bench out the front. PJ :)

We Are All Family - Available now! I am so excited to show this one off! My latest print now in the gallery, We Are All Family was taken at Yanchep National Park a few weekends back. A huge flock of endangered Carnaby’s Black Cockatoo gathered across a few trees surrounding me. Peering through foliage, I captured this image that I absolutely adore. It needs to be seen in print to truly appreciate it. There’s so many birds, I’ve tried to count them a few times and lost count. All the poses, all the character, you can hear this image. We Are All Family is printed 1000x1500mm on @ilfordimaging textured cotton rag 310gsm. Ultrachrome archival pigment is used to create the print, only the best! It has been framed in a bold, chunky, black painted timber frame with a little wood grain showing through. It is protected by AR70 Art Glass which not only protects the precious print from harmful ultra violet light but enhances the viewing experience, knocking out most reflections. There’s more little framing touches to make this extra special but I won’t get too into that here. Thanks to Chris @leamacpictureframing for always coming through with the epic framing (and for the holiday Monday delivery) If you’re interested in owning this piece, flick me a DM or get in touch with me weekdays at @perthprolab PJ

Reshare from @stacygardollart Yesterday I picked up a new batch of Limited Edition canvas prints from the best in the biz, Paul from @perthprolab . With Limited Edition canvas prints like these, the printed area is always extended to wrap around frame, so the image itself isn’t affected. I prefer a “Mirror wrap”, which creates the illusion of the image wrapping around the frame. These are currently being framed, then they will be given a protective coat of varnish, then it’s off to their forever homes. Canvas prints are a very affordable way to achieve a statement piece, and the quality of these prints is just exceptional. Just before Christmas, I had the idea to get framer Chris to make up some ‘Ready to go’ frames that are the same quality you get when you order bespoke but with no frills, just a frame, glass, foamcore backing. We already have ready to go matboards to fit or we can print with borders and adjust crops on images to fill frames. The resulting frames are excellent! When @milesnoel came to me with this piece, the choice was clear! We printed the artwork with a 30mm photo border (white paper) then left a little extra at the bottom for signature and title. Both myself and Miles are super stoked with the resulting framed print. All the class and quality of a bespoke frame for a portion of the price. Our ready to go frames start from just $100! They come in black or white painted wood as well as raw Australian oak, as seen here.
