Thanks to my friends I finally went on one of Olga’s fantastic and far-too-tempting @perfumewalks , and it was outstanding. We visited Floris, Marc-Antoine Barrois, Roja Dove, Fortnums, Perfumer H, Santa Maria Novella AND Ormonde Jayne, learning loads about historic and modern brands, their boutiques and the history of the area. And what a treat to see the historic back room at Floris (pic 1)! The standout smells for me were: @marcantoinebarrois ‘s Aldebaran - a polarising outer-space tuberose where some of the more bubblegum facets meet a stoney maté and paprika that send this somewhere I have never smelled before. I got a sample and this is definitely going on my wishlist for sheer uniqueness. The gorgeous floral testing strips are a work of art in themselves! @rojalondon ‘s Serenity Blend (currently limited availability so not yet at Harrods etc) which I had to buy a travel size of - as you know I am a tea obsessive and this is a gorgeous, relaxing and lasting cup pf citrus black tea, gently sweetened with vanilla, with nuanced overtones of chamomile and white flowers - soooooo pretty. And finally even more tea - @perfumerhlondon ‘s Steam, part of their Icons 2 travel size set (which handily includes all their best things that I didn’t yet have 😅) AND the actual tea to go with it. This is a stunning green tea with mandarin, and in perfume form also plum and woods. This scent was eyerollingly delicious just on a scent strip, I can’t wait to get to know it better. The new ‘Soap’ perfume was also a LOT more interesting and lovely than someone like me who is not fond of ‘laundry musks’ expected- I should have known, because Lyn Harris os the queen of subtlety. The Barnes Fragrance Fair is just behind the corner and I’m looking forward to meeting you on 16 May! This year Perfume Walks is offering two Scented itineraries around Barnes blending places, personalities and fragrances into unforgettable (hopefully ☺️) stories. Every day till @barnesfragrancefair I’ll present one of the exhibitors hoping that it helps you to navigate in the ocean of scents waiting for you at Barnes. I start with Elan Vital @tothefairestlondon as the first thing that surprises you at Barnes is how green it is! Crossing the fields or smelling white acacia flowers, you can’t believe you are in London. Elan Vital is grassy and a little bit earthy, leaning towards a classical masculine scent, a true “vital force”, just like its name suggests. It was the finalist in the @fragrancefoundationuk awards for Best Independent Fragrance in 2023, and it’s not surprising at all! Come and meet the founder Rebecca Rose on 16 May! A Saturday morning well spent on a beautiful @perfumewalks with @calajperfume right in the heart of Soho ☀️ Bathed in sunshine and guided by the ever-wonderful Olga @perfumedaze we explored scent in such a unique and immersive way pairing fragrances with the stories and history woven into the streets around us. Having Flavius Calaj with us made it all the more special; hearing firsthand about the inspirations, technical craft, and personal stories behind the fragrances added so much depth to the experience. There were so many standouts, but Panther Fangs truly spoke to my taste; smoky, hypnotic, and wrapped in an animalic jasmine that just hits perfectly. And of course, Gym Rat (also a star at London’s Niche Show) made its presence known; clean, metallic musk with serious staying power. We wrapped up the walk with a shot of palinka; sweet, potent and the perfect ending to a memorable morning. Today in Perfume Walks Soho-Calaj we enjoyed the sun☀️and the presence of a special guest: Flavius Calaj, founder of @calajperfume who explained us some of the inspirations, technical details and stories behind some of their fragrances🌺It was a very didactic and fragrant morning as usual, and enhanced by the presence of Calaj himself! Thank you Olga and Flavius, it was a beautiful morning and it was also great to see so many frag-friends there. As we finished after 12😜we could taste a bit of ‘palinka’, a traditional (sweet and delicious) drink made from fermented fruits brought by Flavius. 💜 Lilacs are already in bloom in London. Spotted this purple treasure near Parliament Hill yesterday. Did you know lilacs in perfumery is a mixture of several floral notes as they don’t produce essential oil? Of course you do, my fellow perfume lovers ☺️ If you also know who synthesised the first lilacs perfumes, please add in to the comments 👇 What I managed to find was the information about a Grand Prix received by Henry Brocard in 1889 in Paris for his “Persian Lilacs” perfume. A stunning exhibition of Elsa Schiaparelli’s fashion and perfumes in @vamuseum ! We had amazing morning with Hélène @ln.e.pr The only regret was not being able to try the perfumes. Wouldn’t it be fantastic to have diffusers opposite each display? If you are into perfumes, take as many pictures as you can at the exhibition, as the catalogue mentions only few of them. Hèlène and I wish all the best to the brand and we hope to see these legendary fragrances back in the stores. #perfumewalks #schiaparelli #vam
