At the front of every movement for justice are young people daring to demand that systems of power are accountable to the rights of humanity. Youth movements center collectivity and intersectional struggle. How are you supporting young people to build a world where there are no prisons, where we build no walls? It's always a good time to listen to the demands of youth and now is an absolutely crucial time to listen and act. Dream. Build. Embrace a World Where All Youth are Free.

On Earth Day we look to a future when our landscapes are prison free! We are so grateful for all of the time we get to spend envisioning that world with the youth who are building it. 👏👏👏 To all the youth holding institutions accountable today! This mural was painted in 2020 across the street from the police station in Richmond VA. We collaborated with @rise4youth & @codevirginia . The mural was rigged with audio that tripped when people walked by so as cops walked to work... They were serendaded by youth voices talking about abolitionist dreams and liberation. #prisonsdontwork Thank you @benvolta for the awesome print job on the youth portraits!

Exit 95B headed into the capital of IL, lawmakers passing legislation that impacts youth lives and cops training at the IL Corrections Academy will pass by this striking billboard created by @tracieching in collaboration with @thefinal5campaign . What if all of our lawmakers felt committed to youth dreams growing like Wildflowers!!!??? "I Dream of Being Free, Surrounded by Nature. Growing in a Warm Space, Like Wildflowers." - poetry written by Chicago youth leaders. Portrait photo by @mark_aloysious Thank you @1221_photography for the gorgeous documentation of this billboard!!!!

"In Our Free Future, No Young Soul Will Fall!" - lyric from the song "No Youth Prisons" by @circles_ciphers . This dreamy billboard floated over the leafless trees of Chicago last winter. In the first draft of this incredible design by @kahyangni , Kofi had huge blue wings. The @circles_ciphers team asked that they be removed feeling like they were unnecessary. Honestly the adults at @performingstatistics were a little sad but it totally works and looks amazing. It's a lesson in trusting youth vision and creating collaborations with artists who are committed to listening. You can use the QR code in slide 2 to hear the "No Kids In Prison" song.

"Dream of a World Where Our Past Mistakes Don't Determine Our Futures," - poetry by @thefinal5campaign This showstopper was created in collaboration with @liberaljane and the @thefinal5campaign . The day @liberaljane shared her screen with the organizers during a feedback session to show the idea she was imagining.... Our jaws hit the floor! The Abolitionist nightscape complete with giant gorgeous moths, and youth power glowing in the light of the moon was just as incredible when it hit the street in Chicago. It never gets old to see youth/artist collaborations take up public space. #NoKidsInPrison

Step 1. @k8deciccio screenprinted tons off beautiful rainbow roll paper. Step 2. We cut it into loads of shapes and litter work tables with forms youth can use to visualize their ideas. Step 3. Youth organizers from @carenotcontrolpa @juvlaw1975 @yasprojectphilly work with @mark_aloysious @pennysmasher @k8deciccio to take their poetry and transform it into visuals and storyboard animations. (poetry & portraits created in different wkshop w @kahyangni & @mark_aloysious ) Eat pizza. Step 4. The youth explain the arc of vision and movement to @invisthread Step 5. We scan alllllll the shapes & send them to Invisible Thread. Step 5.5. We record all the young people reciting the poetry...also send to It. More pizza. Step 6. Invisible Thread transforms the vision into an augmented reality animation integrating youth voices, poetry & papercut animations triggered by a massive portrait of local Philly organizer, Tiguida. Banner drops & phones come alive with youth dreams of liberation!!!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 @art4justicefund

"We want to create a spectacle of signage we can use over and over again at multiple locations." @carenotcontrolpa In our endless effort to create tools for campaigns that are powerful to use, fun to create & bring the big ideas of young people to life...we made these sign sculptures with @amir.khadar @pennysmasher & Care Not Control in Philly. The coolest part about these things as reusable objects is that you can unbolt the shapes & move them around. Plus how revolutionary is a royalty meets ninja turtles color scheme!!!??? #NoKidsInPrison

"In a World Without Youth Prisons, the World No Longer Works Against Me. It Feels Like Running Through a Field of Sunflowers." Legislators in St Paul are getting lucky and will be bumping into a 2nd run of this billboard as they head to work making laws that impact youth lives. As spring begins to nurture wildflowers and windy afternoons, we can look to nature as our guide for freedom. Youth leaders in MN from @endyp_mn @legalrightscenter wrote the beautiful messaging on this billboard created in collaboration with @dioishh . @mark_aloysious worked with Nadia, one of the youth leaders to create this magical portrait. In a landscape without prisons, sunflowers and so many plants lead the way. If you haven't read The Abolitionist Field Guide by our friends @solitarygardens ... Be sure to get yourself one! 📸 @mark_aloysious #NoKidsInPrison

Abolitionist glam!?!?!? That's right! At out first photoshoot with NJ youth leaders at @pes_studios , @rjampol asked, "What if we go all in on this vision & have a makeup artist at the shoot who the young people can direct to create futurist looks!?" she pulled in @megababeplus who understood the assignment! @ssjmaj1 Jumped in the chair 1st and went in hard with the gold explosion! It set the bar in outer space and everyone had so much fun working with @megababeplus to each make it their own. When we started photoshoots in Camden, the youth recommended @glambycceline . Cassie worked with us on multiple sessions and her vision was 🤯🥳🤯🥳🤯 every time!!!!! And so today we wanted to celebrate youth led abolitionist glam!!! In the world we're fighting for, young men are liberated to feel free to have golden meteor showers across their faces!!! Youth eyelids shimmer with colors of their dreams and after each shoot the makeup artist is already scheming on how to push it even further next time!!!! Thank you @megababeplus for kicking this off and setting the tone, supporting the youth to RUN with makeup experimentation!!!!! Thank you @ccassie._ @glambycceline for the creativity, love and care you put into every look!!! This body of art wouldn't be the same without both of your spectacular work!!!!!🎨 🙌✨♥️✨🙌🎉 @youth4justicenj @socialresponsibilitythroughme @art4justicefund @miyahszn 📸@mark_aloysious

Patches! Patches! Patches! Both @carenotcontrolpa & @endyp_mn created jackets and used patches as a way to deliver messaging. Care Not Control decided to play with futuristic glow in the dark designs. End Youth Prisons MN used inspiration from NASCAR racing jackets & street signs. @amir.khadar transformed the ideas of the organizers into this amazing series of patch designs! Good ole @custompatchfactory_ carried the vision through the finish line. The incredible logo of @endyp_mn was created by @leeyamakesnoise . The organizers were excited to include it on their jackets so we pulled in @dingdongderp to do special giant patches. He sourced materials from the garment district in LA & sewed for 2 days straight so the vision could be realized! At every #NoKidsInPrison tour stop we held swag making workshops where the public could make totes using all the the patches. Abolitionist swag forever! #NoKidsInPrison

From our first conversation with @endyp_mn , they wanted to lift up the impact @target has had on creating a culture of excessive surveillance and normalization of the criminalization of young people in Minneapolis. Almost every young person in the room had a personal story of being followed or targeted by security while in the store. They were interested in creating a graphic tee that exposed the true nature of Target which was founded and continues to be based in Minneapolis. The organizers wanted to emphasize how the company’s own branding speaks to the reality of the brand. @cricekahlil , our event coordinator, supported us to pull in @blormpy & @nicosardina.psd to bring messaging created by EYP to life & print shirts. @lagranlupita shared the work of @popsemcee from, “Targeted: How America’s Retail Darling Drives Youth Incarceration in Minneapolis,” Based on @unicorn.riot Investigative Series: 21st Century Jim Crow in the North Star City. @popsemcee held a workshop with the organizers from EYP sharing how their experiences aligned with his research. @popsemcee worked with us directly to distill mountains of information into a piece focused on youth and craft a list of demands. As we worked to create something focused on youth experiences and Target’s impact on youth incarceration, @caesteele found “Keep it 100” a song by: Crescent Moon, DeAundre Dent and Ace about The Downtown 100, a list of youth harassed for years by Downtown Improvement District officers. @popsemcee knew this group through Kulture Klub Collaborative, connected us and they generously gave permission to include it as part of the sculpture. The song speaks directly to their experiences. Once we saw how much Target had invested, we wanted to make these cash connections explicit. 🙏 Andra from 360 Property Solutions who helped make Target bucks. ✨Terry from Property Guardians & Andra built a clothes rack that we could cover in surveillance cameras.@cricekahlil & Nick Popovici crushed the uniform execution. @lagranlupita & @caesteele sourced perfect hangers to pull it all together. @legalrightscenter #NoKidsInPrison
