#ArtistOfTheMonth ▶️ WATCH ON PAV > ‘The Stillness We Carry’ by @apsi_ashok The Stillness We Carry is a performance-based film by Aparna that explores the tension between societal expectation and personal autonomy. Drawing from lived experience, the work confronts the inherited burdens of tradition, culture, and gender, asking: What does it mean to bear a legacy you did not choose? Filmed in the ruins of the 17th-century Alamparai Fort on the outskirts of Chennai, the site—once a thriving hub of empire and trade—now stands as a crumbling monument to the passage of time. This abandoned space becomes both setting and metaphor for the emotional erosion caused by generational pressure. Through its poetic structure, the film meditates on the fragility of human agency within systems of power, inviting viewers into a liminal space where restraint and resistance coexist. The Stillness We Carry offers an immersive reflection on autonomy, entrapment, and the elusive possibility of transcendence. - Reel by @juanmascia - Watch and support art! #ArtistOfTheMonth Thrilled to welcome the newest artist on the PAV platform: @apsi_ashok ! Aparna is a performance artist based in Chennai, India. Her work responds to the societal pressures placed on women, particularly within South Asian contexts, exploring themes of autonomy, identity, and cultural expectation. She confronts the tension between personal agency and inherited narratives. She works across performance, photography, and video, drawing from her cultural heritage and global experiences to reflect on how the body becomes a site of negotiation—between duty and desire, silence and expression. In 2024, Aparna showcased her work at the MAXXI Museum in Rome as part of RUFA University’s Summer Lab – Performing Rome, followed by the Posthuman – Body, Ecology and Technology Festival in Odisha and Body Furia Festival in Barcelona. In 2025, she was part of a performance festival with the Possible Futures Collective at the Hyderabad Literary Festival and participated in Arcane Portals, an intensive co-creation with Vest&Page, presented as part of Future Ritual: CEREMONY. Aparna holds a BA in Visual Arts from Stella Maris College, Chennai, and an MA in Visual Communication from the Royal College of Art, London. Her practice continues to evolve through workshops and collaborative projects that examine the friction between tradition and agency, personal narrative and collective expectation. - Watch and support art! 📢 #OPENCALL | Systems in Question: Live Art Residency Part of Lines of Flight, CASA’s multi-arts programme at Brixton House. Systems in Question is the June-July strand of CASA’s Lines of Flight programme at Brixton House, exploring how power operates through rules, permissions and infrastructures that organise public life - shaping who gets access, how we move, gather and are governed. At its centre is a Live Art Residency, develop in collaboration with Performance Art Video (PAV), with support from Live Art Development Agency (LADA) and IKLECTIK. We invite applications from London-based Latin American/Latinx, Caribbean and diasporic artists and collectives with ties to these heritages, working across live and hybrid practices, to develop a bold new work-in-progress for public presentation. The residency includes, £1000 artist fee + £800 towards production, research and desk space at LADA, studio development at Brixton House, mentoring support from IKLECTIK, and culminates in a public presentation on Sat 4 Jul 2026. We are particularly interested in practices that examine social protocols, institutional structures, public space, surveillance, or the ways bodies are regulated, controlled, or made visible in different contexts. We also welcome proposals that approach these questions from a more intimate perspective, exploring how larger social and political systems are felt, negotiated, or resisted through the body, behaviour, relationships, and everyday experience. 🗓️ The residency will take place from 1 June to 4 July 2026 🔗 Visit CASA’s site to find out more. //OPEN CALL - DIGILIVE AIR// Digital art residency 📌 deadline - May 15, 2026 As part of the Creative Europe project DigiLiveAiR, we are looking forward to commission three artists or artist groups from the South Caucasus based in a Creative Europe country to develop performance-based movies that research gender equality through an anti-colonial, time-traveling perspective. We are looking for new works that involve critical, poetic or research-led explorations through body-based performance art, where the body becomes a living vessel to reclaim the past as a research lab for the future. At this crossroads, the present serves as a site of resistance, where to dream speculative futures rooted in ancestral realities. Selected artists will develop their works within a digital artist residence curated by @sabrina_bellenzier and @giorgi.rodionov / @untitled.tbilisi in the period from June - October 2026. The resulting films will be showcased in a public exhibition at the @veniceperformanceartweek in Italy in December 2026, and become part of the online platform @performanceartvideo . 📌Commission: EUR 2900 for the creation of a new original performance-based film 📌Eligibility: Artists or artists groups from the South Caucasus based in a Creative Europe programme country 📌Runtime: June 15 - October 15 / 2026 To apply visit our link in bio! #ArtistOfTheMonth ▶️ WATCH ON PAV > ‘Libations’ by @eloiscalabrese Libations explores nourishment and the act of being nourished through fluids, as a direct and constant connection with nature. It reflects a need for a deeper bond with the Earth and with natural elements, even in their most raw and violent forms. The work expresses a desire for connection with the Earth and its elements, including the most intense and untamed ones. This impulse stems from a deep sense of fear toward the social dynamics that shape everyday life, within which the subject perceives themselves as a voluntary slave. It also conveys a need to dig and search for the truth of existence. - Reel by @juanmascia - Watch and support art! #ArtistOfTheMonth ▶️ WATCH ON PAV > ‘Lithos’ by @eloiscalabrese Lithos is a performance without time limitations, investigating the universal condition of collective blindness. The mask worn by the artist symbolizes voluntary servitude to internalized social norms—deeply ingrained beliefs that make us blind to the blood and pain we perpetuate daily. Drawing on the reflections of Byung-Chul Han, the work exposes how social and cultural structures shape perception, judgment, and action. Lithos challenges viewers to confront conditioned vision, deconstruct internalized narratives, and acknowledge individual responsibility. Performed at the artist’s discretion, each iteration transforms gestures into a critical reflection on perception, power, and the invisible dynamics that govern society. - Reel by @juanmascia - Watch and support art!
