Dear Atelier friends and fam (blood+artistic),
As you may have noticed, activities have slowed down at the Atelier. Good observation! This phase of the community building and pedagogical experiment has come to a very satisfying end as I turn my focus onto more international projects for now; as I’m also hard at work building a new structure that begins to also tackle more meaningful dialogues and productions surrounding and beyond our practices.
The Atelier was always built as a pedagogical experiment, as I found many questions and ambitions in the work that could not be satisfied or executed in the higher ed space that I was working in. While it might have looked like a small business, the space actually began concurrently with my MFA research project. After years working in that sector, I question the boundaries and usefulness of compartmentalized actor training, the merits and deficits of institutions, what made certain schools integrate better than others structurally, the necessary institutional culture and boundaries that maybe at odds with the essence of the work, queries on community and culture building, my artistic-lifelong queries on pedagogy… so that my initial critique becomes a generative experiment that is useful to both my practice, those involved, and the larger inquiry.

When that happens, once we brave through whatever that is, we start to encounter magic; and love ourselves in whatever elements we are seen as because we start to register how the parts of ourselves we attach shame/ uncertainty/ doubts (about big powers) to turns out to be what’s most unique about us and that’s what the audience can’t help be care about you in your full potency.
