A difficult effect to pull off, yes that phone screen shattering is practical and not cgi, however the illumination of it was added in post. It is a real screen and I must say the glass used in phones is really really tough yet super thin. The first piece of glass we tried wouldn’t actually shatter. . . . . . This is an old rig I made about 6 years ago and has recently been rebuilt and upgraded(keep an eye out for it in a future post).
