As an interdisciplinary group, Blanca has a natural affinity for creators who weave analog practices into the broader world of architecture. Our Design Principal, @laurenraewilcox , recently spent a sunny afternoon in Seattle at the @pentographdesign studio, documenting their small yet mighty team of fabricators.
Operating at the intersection of high end architectural fabrication and raw material experimentation, Pentograph derives its name from its two founders: the "Pen" of Jennifer Thuma’s sketching affinity and the "Graph" of Phirak Suon’s technical mindset. Established in 2024 as an experimental offshoot of Grayscale Design Studio, the practice draws on a diverse foundation of architecture, lighting, glass blowing, and ceramics. Today, the studio is pushing the boundaries of traditional craft through 3D porcelain printing. This exploration has led them to a unique niche in the botanical world, where they sell their wares live via @palmstreetapp .
These sales are more than just a side project; they directly fund the continued experimentation required for Pentograph’s intentionally fluid and ever-evolving identity.
“In a world of disappearing trades and rising costs, people crave the balance and control that comes from knowing exactly how the objects in their environment are made,” Thuma notes. By prioritizing this intentional experimentation, Pentograph is evolving at its own pace, ensuring that even their smallest creations provide the structural DNA for their most grand concepts.
