Fun with Varis
Tuesday night 04.28.2026 session of Berkeley Art Studioās Portrait Photography workshop was a lot of fun. Varis and I were partners for this exercise. We took turns taking photos of each other. The exercise was to use a prop. For us it was this cool orange chair from our classroom. For Varis, it was time to really have fun with the poses! Lucky me! As for photos of me, I havenāt seen them yet, but I bet you theyāre not as animated as these š
Location: a hallway across from our classroom at the MLK Student Union building, lit by a row of wall-mounted fluorescent light strips.
Lens: Canon EF 50mm F1.4

Grateful for every day I can take my camera on a hike. I am inspired by runners who take on punishing vert and heat and still have the energy to give me a smile š . Iām here for you so you can remember these days.

Last of the 4 street photography workshop sessions: capturing motion on Bancroft Avenue.
With my experience in sports photography (trail running), nailing shutter speed was something I learned right at the start. Freeze the subject while running, in focus and no blurs. Last nightās workshop explored slowing the shutter speed in order to āseeā the motion. I really enjoyed this session! Iām a bit sad there wonāt be a 5th session, but at the same time, Iām excited to apply to my photography work the learnings from the past 4 weeks. Thanks to our instructor @jopbaylon for all the guidance and expert tips! (The last picture in this set is a picture of my workshop mates and Jop while we were shooting on campus).

It was a memorable day today in La Honda, CA where the Skyline Ridge Trail Run and Hike was held to benefit the Bay Area Ridge Trail! Runners and hikers were treated to expansive views of the verdant Santa Cruz Mountains and the deep blue Pacific Ocean in the horizon! Congratulations to all the runners and hikers! Thanks to all the volunteers and Friends of the Ridge Trail Race Directors who organized this run for @bayarearidgetrail !

My new favorite thing to do: night photography!
Thanks to the Street Photography workshop Iām taking at UC Berkeleyās @berkeleyartstudio ! I love this much-needed injection of excitement to my life as a photographer! I love capturing subjects other than running scenes, subjects that have always interested me ālike light+buildingā learning and pushing my technical knowledge, moving and pausing to freeze places and moments. These are just a handful of shots I took this week while at the UC Berkeley campus. It went on for hours⦠miles⦠and I was completely immersed and mesmerized.
