In conversation with GIDA, Senegalese creative director Penda Seck (@pendaksc ) shares how storytelling sits at the crux of her practice, shaped by the textures, rhythms, and visual language of her environment. Working instinctively through colour, she approaches each project with a sensitivity to palette, while sound becomes a framework for thinking through ideas, guiding the tone and direction of her work from the outset.
Across the interview, Penda reflects on how her ideas move from initial concept to final image, discussing how she selects her subjects, builds her compositions, and defines what makes a frame feel complete. She also speaks on the references that continue to inform her visual language, her approach to developing colour palettes, and the influence of being based in Dakar on the way she sees and directs her work.

Noticed the most gorgeous palettes and combinations at one of the @aissadionetissus ‘s warehouse this morning with @gadaay .
Aissa adopts a sophisticated color palette and develops newer patterns for textile, while improving the quality of the traditional raw materials .
She creates high end hangwoven frabrics and beyond textile has expended into interior design blending different savoir faire’s .
