This week members of the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Key Issues Affecting the Traveller Community visited residents at three accommodation sites on Dunsink Lane.
The visit was an opportunity for the Oireachtas member to hear the concerns of the residents of Dunsink Lane regarding a planned development by Fingal County Council (FCC). Announced late last year, FCC plan to develop a major urban quarter across a 1,000 acre site that includes the former Dunsink dump.
INSTA
The three accommodation sites at Dunsink Lane which are home to more than 100 Travellers. As yet there has been no consultation with residents in the area and there is little clarity whether the three sites will be integrated into the proposed development. St Joseph's Horse and Pony Club, also in the area, have been informed by FCC that they will be moved.
Traveller families first moved into the area 55 years ago and there is a real concern from residents that they are facing displacement from their homes.
The Oireachtas members, which included @dessieellistd (SF) @padraig.rice.td (SD), @quinlivantd (SF), & @malcolmnoonan (GP), were led on their visit by Mary Brigid Collins, Bernadette Collins, & Mary Collins.

Today is 💜 #GoPurpleDay 💜 which aims to raise awareness of domestic abuse and the supports available to those experiencing it.
We know domestic abuse can impact anyone, but barriers to support, stigma, and discrimination can make seeking help even harder for Traveller and Roma communities.
Everyone has the right to live free from violence and abuse.
There are free and confidential helplines to listen to you, support and believe you.

Pavee Point’s Roma and Education team recently contributed to the ‘Celebrating Romní Bahtali Tapestry’ event hosted by Atlantic Technological University in collaboration with Donegal Travellers Project. Rudolf took part in a panel discussion exploring Roma history and culture as part of the event.
The event celebrated the powerful Romní Bahtali tapestry — a phrase used to wish good fortune — created by Roma women living in Co. Donegal. Over two months, the group met weekly to share stories, reflect on Roma life, and explore themes of persecution, resilience, and cultural pride. These conversations inspired a tapestry in which every detail symbolises elements of Roma identity, lived experience, and hope for a future where Roma heritage is celebrated and Roma women shape their own narratives.
🎂 It's a pleasure to share that birthday celebrations rang in for Molly Collins this week. 🎂
At 91 years young, and born on May 13th 1936, Molly is one of the "originals" of the first Primary Health care programme: a pillar of her community, a lifelong advocate for Traveller rights, and at the coalface of Primary Health Care. Molly lights up our workplace with her sense of humour, her stories and her songs!
Happy Birthday Molly - nothing with us without you!
This morning at the GPO the first ever Traveller stamps were unveiled by An Post.
Coinciding with the launch of Traveller Pride Week 2026, the two new national stamps celebrate Irish Traveller History and Culture and recognise the Traveller community as a distinct and valued part of Ireland’s shared heritage.
Each stamp focuses on a key aspect of Traveller life: An image of a traditional Traveller wagon highlights the importance of nomadism, a defining feature of Traveller culture; the image of the ‘ponger’ or tin mug marks an important element of the historic Traveller economy.

Today Pavee Point, alongside other Traveller organisations, had the pleasure of joining @presidentirl Catherine Connolly at the Áras for an afternoon tea reception.
President Connolly hosted the reception to celebrate Traveller culture and to honour the contributions of Travellers to Irish society.
Speaking to those gathered, President Connolly spoke about the rich history of Travellers and the contemporary challenges still faced: "The day [March 1st, 2017] was very emotional. I was there as an Independent, and I remember it very, very well. It served as the affirmation of the identity, history and culture of the Traveller community. A source of pride to all of us but who continue to face discrimination on so many different levels."
The President went on to say that she looks forward to further visits to Traveller projects around the country, and that she is looks forward to the launch of Traveller Pride Week tomorrow at the GPO.

On Tuesday we were pleased to present at the All-Ireland Conference on Integrated Care 2026 at UCD. Our focus was a rights-based approach to health and the vital role of Traveller organisations and Traveller Primary Health Care Projects (PHCTPs) in addressing Traveller health inequalities in partnership with the HSE.
Discussions focused on ensuring integrated care involves not only services working with communities but also building in inclusion by design rather than exclusion by default.
Pavee Point welcomed the opportunity to contribute to important conversations on the future of integrated care in Ireland and to highlight the value of the community sector expertise, including Traveller organisations and groups working with Roma to support a rights-based approach to health.

The 20th National March for Palestine happens this Saturday 16th May in Dublin at 1pm.
Under the slogan of 'End 78 Years of Ongoing Nakba', this National Demo is to highlight that the so-called 'Gaza ceasefire' remains a fiction; the military occupation continues, and Israel has violated the 'ceasefire' more than 2,500 times over the past six months, killing some 750 people and injuring 2,100 more.
From @irelandpsc : 'The Irish government continues abdicating its responsibility to the Palestinian people, stalling and backtracking on promises to take action, allowing the US military to continue to use Shannon Airport and our airspace, and shaming us all by association.'
That's why it's imperative that we hit the streets in large numbers once again to pile the pressure on. We've seen victories thanks to our collective movement in Ireland - but we demand so, so, much more!
