Thank you to the many community groups, organisations and landmarks that came together to support Go Purple Day. Together we are stronger 💜 Unfortunately, domestic abuse continues to have a devastating impact on individuals, families and communities throughout Ireland. There have been over 17,900 incidents of domestic abuse reported so far in 2026 (up to 30.04.2026). This represents a 10% increase compared to the first four months of 2025. Domestic Abuse can be a hidden crime, happening behind closed doors, and in the case of coercive control it can be occurring in plain sight. Go Purple Day aims to increase the visibility of the supports available to victims, it encourages conversations within communities and network groups and reminds victims and survivors that they are not alone. If you or someone you know is affected by domestic abuse, we urge you to come forward and speak to us. We will listen and do everything we can to protect, support and help you stay safe. Your safety matters and help is here for you when you are ready. #GoPurpleDay #KeepingPeopleSafe

“I didn’t know what I was going into, I didn’t know what to expect. What I found was a family and people that I really connected with, and I loved it.” Garda Jennifer Carrick went to Bray Garda station in 2006 as a probationer – and loved it so much, she is still there 20 years later! If you think a career in An Garda Síochána might be for you, apply here at the link in our bio before 3 June. #ItsAJobWorthDoing

“Very often, Gardaí are meeting people at the most difficult moments in their lives. They are responding to incidents in highly emotional and traumatic circumstances. They are supporting victims and families, whilst also investigating offences and pursuing perpetrators. They are working closely with support services and community organisations to ensure victims receive the help and protection they need. This is difficult and challenging work, but it is vitally important work. It is also work that An Garda Síochána takes very seriously.” Assistant Commissioner Angela Willis speaking at the launch of Go Purple Day 2026. #GoPurpleDay #KeepingPeopleSafe

We were honoured to have Garda Stacey Looby attend the official launch of Go Purple Day 2026. Go Purple Day was initiated by Stacey six years ago, who was working in Navan at the time, and recognised the impact the pandemic restrictions were having on people living in fear. Garda Looby showed how An Garda Síochána and the domestic abuse services in Navan could support people to tell them that the restrictions of movement didn’t apply to those fleeing domestic abuse. It is just as important today that victims of domestic abuse know who they can contact for help, and the services available to them, both from An Garda Síochána and voluntary services. #GoPurpleDay #KeepingPeopleSafe

A refresh of An Garda Síochána’s Coastal Watch in the Southern Region was launched today in Castletownbere Co. Cork, by Assistant Commissioner for the Southern Region, Eileen Foster. Coastal Watch’s purpose is to raise awareness and encourage those who live, work, or use the coast, to report unusual activity to help prevent and detect crime. It is a community-based, crime-prevention initiative involving residents, businesses, landowners, Government agencies, voluntary emergency services and An Garda Síochána. Coastal Watch is not just about policing, it is about presence, awareness, prevention and partnership. Speaking at the event, Assistant Commissioner Foster stated, "Coastal Watch has been in existence for over 30 years and has proved to be a success. However, personnel in organisations, landowners near coastline and communities change with the passage of time. Therefore, it is important to re-energising Coastal Watch through persistent, clear engagement with our coastal communities and ensuring that Coastal Watch continues to operate effectively". #KeepingPeopleSafe
