How much do I love it when F1 returns to Spa? I only made a bronze statue to celebrate it, and the dynamic of the greatest corner sequence in motorsport… #SennaSempre
Limited editions available in three scales by the way... email [email protected] for info where.
When everything went nuts… this one minute zero prep clip went viral, unwrapping my Senna ‘Eau Rouge’ on the iconic MTC boulevard, and in Feb 2019 was @mclaren ’s most viewed clip ever.
At this point my self styled career of celebrating my passion for F1 in art had been going ok, I was showing in every paddock club on the calendar, had already worked with most teams on the grid, and indeed funded this project myself, a massive leap of faith into the unknown. But my word, didn’t that work out ok! In the 6 years since, the interest and demand in my work exploded exponentially, to the extent that it would be a full time job bouncing around the world talking about this, if I accepted every nice invite. My project with McLaren soon expanded too into celebrating each of their world champion drivers in hyper realistic bronze, a 10 year project which I’m half way through. And the first statue of a living McLaren champion will be unveiled this summer. After that I’m just really hoping that @f1mikahakkinen ‘s wish to be depicted naked on a unicycle gets approved!
It’s been a great Silverstone prep weekend, for my ‘all-in’ collab with @thepopuphotel infield at the circuit… Red 5 incoming! This will be the last time you see this painting until unveiling in July.
I don’t paint cars too often, I vehemently believe that art should focus on emotion and story telling, and there’s nothing better for that than dynamic portraits of celebrating drivers. @nigelmansell ‘s 1992 title tho was BIG in our household! It was my second ever visit to Silverstone that year with my late father, to experience Nigel winning there first hand was simply mind blowing for 16 year old me… the lifelong love of F1 duly cemented. My famously pro dog - anti cat father was clearly moved also, finally relenting and bringing a crazy Siamese kitten into the house, but only on the condition that he was named Nigel!
As I said, art is all about stories and emotion. And I’ve spent much of this weekend just painting and smiling, thinking of my dear dad and his absolute legend of a cat Nigel. See you at Silverstone.
The F1 Hub Montreal is now OPEN!
1030 Rue de la Montagne. Featuring a collection of ‘Wall of Champions’ 55cm/23” editions… for the first time showing in the city of @f1gpcanada I even named this collection after.
A most stressful week, immediately released. You’d think that there wouldn’t be much stress involved in painting pictures for a living huh… but I think it’s likely always the case, that the bigger the projects and exposure, the tighter the deadlines and more heightened the politics… especially in the high paced global circus of Formula One. Two wheels, hills and just a little suffering has been my counter balance for almost forty years now, and I truly believe that I’d have achieved much less in life without it. The only difference at this point in life is that my perspective on life’s pressures is more objective, the two wheeled equipment is more capable, and I get to roll home to my refuel with my wife’s spectacular cheesecake. Balance is everything!
When the art meets the car… 😳
Senna’s last winning car the @mclarenf1 MP4/8… an icon that regardless of whatever I create around it, will be proudly second fiddle to.
When the painting matches the car, and both tell one hell of a story. Bringing a few tricks as always to the @grandprixtrust bi-annual get together at @silverstonecircuit !
Doing my best David Attenborough impression for my 2014 ROAR wildlife show with Bristol Zoo. Happy birthday Sir! What an icon.
I painted this 8ft wide elephant in our 6ft wide kitchen before I had a studio! Yes that is possible. Rest of the collection in the slides that follow, including my first Senna sculpture.
Realised that these three clips next to each other in my camera roll, are pretty much a perfect representation of my life. Absolutely love being home! I would never be able to hit F1 weeks like Miami that hard without the balance. And to be totally honest, if I didn’t really just want to be home with my wife most of the time, then what the hell am I doing….
Between live painting, on stage Q&As, unveiling my new desktop scale Senna 8 sculpture, and trying to not try to not get on Netflix… it was an absolute honour to be working with @mclarenf1 again in MIA. Thanks for everything team! And what a team 😳 Awesome to meet so many new friends too! Until next time 🧡
