Last Saturday, @only.hanpan , @espagan86 , and I cohosted the third annual Backyard Ren Fest (BYRF)! (We have since taken to referring to it as BYRFday, pronounced “birfday”. This will not change for the foreseeable future.) The weather forecast the week leading up to it really took us on an emotional rollercoaster but we managed to avoid rain during the actual event, which was fortunate since this year we incorporated aerial performance and live music (both of which had no contingency plan for rain) for the first time. @parcellicarmen , @intotheblue.aerial , and I constituted the aerial portion, and @seeliecourtmusic was this year’s featured presenter! (My favorite part of the clip from Carmen’s performance is where one of @lianacarissa ’s kids audibly goes “That looks SO hard!!”) I was very remiss at taking photos with/of most of the people I invited but it was a great time, and I look forward to doing it again next year! But until then, I guess we have ACTUAL ren faire to tide us over lol. 🏡🏰
I missed [posting about] World Circus Day yesterday but in my defense, I was busy hanging out with circus friends at the time — that kind of makes up for it, right? I had a great time languishing in the garden / looking like sister wives / having a “tea” party with some of the best people I know, and I’m so grateful for circus bringing us all together. 💖🎪🌷

Rich in life because my sister @michellodarling / @worlds.tightest.knitter is a very skilled knitter who made this Dala horse sweater just for me. 🥹 This is her half of a craft trade (I still owe her two ramen bowls in return) but I’m definitely receiving the better end of the bargain because she’s a much better knitter than I am a potter. But, if she’s okay with that, then that’s one Dala horse I’m not gonna look in the mouth.
Brand new year, brand new act: Brand New Day. Last week I debuted a new act as part of NOW!, a two-night circus extravaganza (with a completely sold out final show!) that I co-produced with my dear friend and aerial tour de force @parcellicarmen . Generally speaking, I am very busy, and the time leading up to NOW! was no exception; I’d planned to reprise one of my older acts because I was running short on time, but when I rewatched it, I felt like it just…wasn’t that captivating? Plus I’d learned a new thing or two (and maybe even created a new move?) in the years that had passed since I performed it. So, I created Brand New Day to take some of my favorite moves from that choreography and breathe new life into them. 💖

My Christmas gift to myself is finally (yes, two months after the fact) uploading photos from the final day of MDRF 2025 so I no longer have them hanging over my head going into 2026. (I have 256GB of storage on my phone, and for what? Hoarding photos and videos, apparently.) 😌🏰💖

You might have seen her doing ambient aerial at Pirate Prom, but for the Bad Yule Ball, @aerialintrigue will be bringing a fiery phoenix act in honor of one of the many things celebrated during Yule: rebirth. Meghan’s performances are characterized by a high degree of musicality, fluidity, and precision, and she leverages these qualities to instill a sense of awe in audiences. Along with experimenting and performing on her signature fabric loops, she also enjoys creating opportunities for others to perform — one is currently in the works, so feel free to contact her to learn more! Can I offer you a nice bowl of Udon in these trying times?
No snakes were harmed in the making of this post (but one did get vaguely annoyed). I named Udon after the chubby white rice noodle, because he himself is a chubby white noodle. Ever since I started learning pottery in earnest, one of my goals has been to throw a bowl big enough to hold Udon so I could do a silly little photo shoot of him roleplaying his namesake. I had grand aspirations of taking said photos with my nice camera, but I quickly realized that with his constant desire to move around, getting a useable photo that way was going to be nigh impossible (in the last photo, I even had to call for backup so I could use both my hands). While Udon was a good sport about the whole ordeal insofar as he didn’t hiss at or try to bite me, I think it’s pretty clear: I’m going to need to make a bigger bowl. 🐍🍜
