Primrose Hill has been shortlisted for the Architizer A+Awards @architizerawards . This nomination speaks to our ambitions in humanizing purpose-built rental housing and rethinking urban densification in Toronto. Located in Moss Park, the project resuscitates an existing 1970s apartment complex by introducing two new towers that actively invert traditional high-rise massing. In stacking shifting volumes that grow larger as they rise, the architecture maximizes open space at grade for community use. A suspended skybridge physically connects the structures at the seventeenth floor, reimagining residential amenity design as a spatial vehicle for inclusion. At the base, precast arches pay homage the site’s Brutalist heritage. To challenge the staid development landscape of the downtown core, we collaborated with London-based artist and designer Adam Nathaniel Furman @adamnathanielfurman on the building facade. Furman’s work gives colour civic weight, using its polychromous force to shape public experience, build identity, and give architecture a more vivid presence in the city. At Primrose Hill, this thinking informed a palette of rich gradients and bold transitions — softening the scale of the cantilevered massing and bringing warmth and optimism to the skyline. Layered House was our entry for the House of the Future competition, developed with Black Buffalo 3D @blackbuffalo3d for the UAE’s Sheikh Zayed Housing Program. The project explores how the future of housing can emerge from the layered histories of place - blending Emirati architectural traditions with 3D-printed construction technology to create a sustainable, affordable, and culturally rooted prototype. When St. Joseph Communications — one of Canada’s leading content and media companies — set out to transform their Toronto headquarters, the question wasn’t what to add, but how to evolve. During the pandemic, they chose to retrofit rather than rebuild — turning an aging industrial shell into a light-filled statement about creativity, resilience, and renewal. We used the rhythm of the original brick façade as a guide, introducing a new ETFE skin that redefines the building’s presence with light, reflection, and transparency. A transformation that honours its past while projecting its future. A continuation of our AI test-fit “The Orbit” in motion. This study began with a simple question: what happens when we take a project originally designed for Innisfil, Ontario, and recontextualize it within an arid landscape using emerging AI tools? We used platforms like Nano Banana, Midjourney, and Kling AI to reinterpret The Orbit’s geometry and atmosphere — an experiment in translation rather than invention. As a studio, we believe this work should be an honest discussion about using AI in architecture — its potential to expand design imagination, but also its biases and distortions. The result is both familiar and foreign: a retrofit where public transit, density, and landscape merge into a speculative yet livable urban model.
