Today is World Art Day 2025, but every day at Park Hotel Kenmare is a chance to celebrate creativity, and the artists who inspire us.
We have a bold, fresh, eclectic and exciting selection of work from talented contemporary Irish and international artists on our walls â we love the intriguing conversation that happens between modern art and this historic hotel.
Over the next few days, weâll be highlighting some of the profound stories behind some of these artworks, beginning with a powerful statement by Chicago-based social practice artist, Theaster Gates.
It may look like an Abstract Expressionist painting from the â60s, but itâs made from strips of decommissioned fire hose, like those used to break up peaceful protests by the school-age demonstrators during the Civil Rights movement in Birmingham, Alabama in 1963.
Charged with political symbolism, this work by Theaster Gates honours the protest and reclaims the power, reminding us all of the importance of standing up to oppression.
Find out more about Theaster Gates and his extraordinary work exploring and commemorating African-American history on one of our art tours.

Descend into our heritage cellar, built in 1897.
Hidden within the hotelâs original undercroft, the Cellar Experience is an intimate, guided journey through a carefully considered selection of wines where atmosphere, knowledge and quiet conversation come together.
Each bottle is chosen for its story, shared from vineyard to glass, culminating in a tasting of four wines from our curated collection.
A discreet experience, reserved for those who seek it.
