We spoke to artist @pari.aazami I create mixed media art that combines photography and gilded metal leaf to elevate the ordinary. Born in Iran and raised amid creativity and philosophy, my cultural background shapes my perspective. I believe the world is multi-layered and beautiful, yet much goes unnoticed in daily life. My work aims to revive the extraordinary, encouraging viewers to reconnect with the magic of childhood wonder. Each piece starts with macro photographs of nature—like stone and lichen—cropped to obscure familiar references, sparking imagination. These images are pigment printed on textured fine art paper, then layered with metal leaf that catches light and creates a 3D effect. The shifting reflections invite contemplation and remind us that perception varies based on perspective. Many artworks can be displayed in multiple orientations, allowing for varied interpretations. The meticulous gilding process is meditative, and while I name my pieces for practical reasons, I value viewers’ personal interpretations. Hearing their insights brings me joy. Ultimately, my goal is to offer a moment of calm and light. I believe that reconnecting with beauty can foster peace and reduce conflict. There are some artists who capture time itself in iridescent whispers… Meet Pari Aazami, Iranian-British artist whose mixed-media works merge photography and gilded gold and silver leaf to create pieces that invite pause and reflection. Working with detailed photographs drawn from nature’s hidden textures, she applies precious metal leaf to create three dimensional works that “shift and illuminate new colourful perspectives throughout the day” as light reveals different depths and details across their surfaces. Secret Garden….. What do you see? Am I on land, am I in water? I’m simply your heart’s perception, so let go and find me where you wish.💗 This is the life I saw on a palm tree in #vanuatu. Look how they live side by side in all those fabulous colours and forms, creating their own art simply by being.✨ Utterly loved discovering it, capturing the photograph and then gilding it.🥰 Take a moment and let yourself wander, in your mind’s eye, to wherever this piece wishes to take you. And once you are ready, go and make yourself a cup of tea and take long, deep, slow luscious breaths in and out. Consider this artwork my hug to you 🤗. Used quite a lot of metal leaf here… probably more than necessary lol. New work. Now finished and so more posts about it to come. I was in flow and feeling the joy. Loved making this one✨…. I used SOOOO much metal leaf in this. Making your own colour does mean you go through mor metal leaf than normal and the need for varnish to protect the colour afterwards is even more important to keep it archival. Three hours in 30 seconds ✨ This is yellow silver leaf and I absolutely adore it. It shines, it’s bright, it twinkles, it just lifts everything ✨ Just showing you the process for my next one. Again, I’m going to find it so hard to name this. I relive Vanuatu every time I create an artwork using an image I took from there. It’s been good for me 🌿 I hope you like my new series. A world on a palm tree in Vanuatu.✨ I took this image almost exactly on the opposite side of the world from where I am now. The lichen is similar to the lichen that can be found here, although the colour is different. It reminded me that, like humans, underneath we are all the same, with different skins, and far more alike than we are different all equally beautiful in our own way ✨ This piece is for an upcoming exhibition with @natashapearlgallery , starting 29th of May alongside @justin_gilday .
