Tijs Van Steenberghe is steered by energy, attraction to be more specific. Attraction to the image dictates his process, the energy that arises when he encounters, cuts and when imagery meets each other. Often using material from the 50s and 60s, his work carries traces of past ideals; gender roles, the meaning of beauty and attraction, good and bad, success and failure all of which echo today in new forms. Tijs @paper.pulse.echo navigates an ever-evolving question: what does it mean to be a man today? Drawn to the divine feminine, he embraces both attraction and awareness allowing space to define and redefine beauty while recognizing its complexity in the 21th century. Through this practice, Tijs Van Steenberghe invites us to recognize both the constructed nature of our realities and the freedom that lies within that awareness. A decade long vision, years of friendship and 8 amazing artists… This is the recap of the Sick For School Tomorrow debut. What once was an idea, became a concept and a show. But much more than that, this is the beginning of a movement. We were able to live the dream of bringing together art, music, food and the most beautiful souls from Mexico City and beyond. Collage workshop announcement What happens if we begin by falling in love with an image?�And what if love continues to guide the way we create? This workshop starts from a deep affection for paper, history and the image as witness. Images carry traces of who we were and gestures toward who we are becoming. They reflect both the individual and the collective: the beauty, discomfort, and contradictions of humanity as an ever-shifting construction. With an approach of working with what is already around us, assembling fragments into new meanings. Tijs @paper.pulse.echo will share his own process and guide you toward discovering your personal collage language. Through moments of silence, shared memory, attentive listening, playful experimentation, we reconnect with wonder and curiosity. From there, we enter dialogue with paper, images, textures, and colour cutting, tearing, composing, and recomposing. The workshop invites you to trust your intuition, to let fragments meet, and to allow love to lead the way, until certain elements simply feel right together. That is where the collage begins. - Please bring scissors, glue, and if possible a cutting knife and cutting board.� - Tijs will be collecting material in CDMX, but additional magazines, books, paper treasures are welcomed.� - Workshop is in English with Spanish translation available if needed.� Places are limited. “There is nothing but love” a wise man once said Tijs Van steenberghe @paper.pulse.echo (38, Belgium) is not that man but the personalization of this wisdom. Driven by love for the image, it’s paper, texture and smell, Tijs has become a rising star in the European collage scene. As an academic researcher and lector at the faculty of Social Work in Ghent, the artist initially expresse himself through writing (which he still practices) followed by photography. Years later, the extensive screen time and long duration before seeing results in both occupations demanded change. At a second hand market, the artist encountered an old, dusty book with advertisements from the 50’s and 60’s. This is the first time his guide, the love for the image and its carrier in a myriad of dimensions combined with the urge to free the images from its context showed itself. His, direct, new form of expression was found. Inspiration comes from the divine feminine and his ever evolving relationship to that essence. Combined with his love for the image, the artist is propelled forward by the drive to cut into what elevates his heartbeat and create new organic encounters. Tijs presents a mix of surrealist with abstract pieces to his debut exhibition in Mexico City. An exploration of his themes of the divine feminine, his ever evolving search for what its means to be a man today, the meditative role of nature in his life and love, so much love for the image, the other, the encounter and love for love’s sake will follow next.
