What an incredible night of learning and creativity at PS124M’s Family STEM Night in collaboration with the Center for Architecture! 🏙️✨ 60 of our families joined us for a hands-on skyscraper building workshop where students and families explored how engineers and architects design tall buildings to stand strong. While a crew of runners ran the Kid Dash at the Mott Street Mile, our Modern Rock Band performed at @musicwill Jamfest. As one of the youngest to perform at Jamfest, these students have been jamming all throughout the school year with our music teacher, Ms. E. Young. Over the last few months, representatives from the 4th and 5th grades have been working hard to come up with ideas to improve PS124. The representatives presented two proposals to the school and every PK-5th grade student voted on the proposal they most wanted. We’re happy to announce that our school community voted on improving our school library! 🏆 Congratulations to the 2026 NY State Champions of the U1000 Division — PS124! 🐼🏀 After last year’s first showing as a brand new team under @impactcoachingnetwork , PS124 came back this season stronger than ever — clawing our way to the top of the championship stage! This year, over 20 players represented our school, double the number from last year. After a long hiatus, PS124 is once again proving that we are here to compete. We could not be more proud of the grit, determination, and commitment these students have shown — and of the incredible parents and families who supported them every step of the way through the highs and lows, through tears and cheers. What does it mean to win? To lose? To fall, make mistakes, dust yourself off, and try again? These are the lessons learned and the core memories made. Our 5th, 4th, 3rd, 2nd, 1st, and Kindergarten players who represented PS124 at this championship will carry with them the friendships, resilience, and bonds forged on this journey for years to come. Special congrats to Logan, Oliver and Leo for their individual accomplishments and placing in their categories! The legendary PS 124 Panda Pawns from Chinatown, Manhattan, once again walk the NY State Championship stage, as they secure clear 1st place in K-5 U1000 section at the 58th Annual NY State Chess Championship held in Saratoga, NY! The team was led by an incredible 6-0 effort from Logan Chow who took 1st place individually. It’s been 15 years since the Panda Pawns rose to National stardom. In May of 2011, they made history by winning a top division at the National High School Chess Championship in Nashville. Despite being elementary schoolers, the team defeated high school students, including players from Stuyvesant High School. A special thank you to Coach Jenny, for her dedication in helping rebuild the Panda Pawns and leading them to incredible success!
