Disorganized documentation of project from fall 2017- fall 2018 with some help from my neighbors’ kids. ~70% of the paint was sourced from the “Oooops” paint graveyard from Home Depot & Lowe’s. Charlie, 3, painted a portrait of their family next to me getting rained on, added a blue dog below the lion eating the sun, detailed the green M&M’s boots, and added an extra piece to the chessboard, which I thought I had so cleverly painted to be a stalemate. A gaggle of kids approached one day asking if they could help and added some background and details around the clown. The side with Bimbo and the clown remain. Last pic was sent to me by a neighbor, after I had moved, and construction was beginning over a garden I had shared with friends. What started as an attempt at a Voynich Manuscript lover’s prayer, ended up resulting in a lot of beautiful conversations with neighbors, who I wasn’t previously familiar with. I remember painting one day and someone stopped me to tell me to STOP doing graffiti on someone’s “artwork”...which was both sweet...and a little offensive to me. I only remember this getting tagged once or twice very small. Wouldn’t have minded more, but thanks y’all. Text on the lion painting (1) is ripped from Tom Rapp/Pearls Before Swine’s song “Island Lady”.
