3 years of development culminated last Sunday in 2 very special performances of Barragga Yangga - Many Songs - at @fourwindsau - created by @cheryl_davison_artist and @djinamayilaga choir and sung in the reawakened Durgha language of the Yuin Nation. The songs were co-composed by Djinama Yialaga and @heathcullen . Very special guest was the incredible Butchulla songman @fredleone . My contribution to the project has been string quartet compositions, both stand alone and accompanying the choir and some macro-compositional input. Special thanks to @affinityquartett who brought such detail, care and skill in bringing the strings to life. I’m eternally grateful to Cheryl and Djinama Yilagga for trusting me to collaborate with them and bringing me into their musical family. I’ve learnt so much about the strong women of the South Coast and made great friends along the way. Also a huge thank you to @leigh___small , Louise Morris, @benji_fowler and all at Four Winds who have produced this show from the ground up. It’s a very special arts centre doing great things.
Had the honour of performing this song tonight for Martin Luther King III, with the incredible Emma Donovan and Dave Symes. The song was written by Nina Simone in the days after his father was killed. An incredibly moving experience. @emmadonovan_music@mistersymes
My dear friend Dave in a window from @boyandbear dropped by The Habitat studio for me to record some classic keys on a project he’s working on. So great to spend time again and make music with one of my fave musicians and peeps @mistersymes
This beautiful album of songs and heart by Liliya Grigorova featuring the wonderful Viken Nazikian on guitars has just been released. Initially beginning as a recording session at my studio The Habitat, I ended up stepping in to produce the record and just loved every minute of the process. I hope you enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed being a part of it’s creation @littlesurfingmermaid@pickin_vicken
I’ve been composing the music for this wonderful podcast for 5 series now…. And last night we won this at the Australian Podcast Awards - Best Kids Podcast. Congrats to the whole team at @abclisten . It’s been so awesome to be a part of this 🎉
