Soft handmade mochi. Warm custard obanyaki. Mango fillings, coconut centres, chewy cookies inspired by flavours travelling far beyond Cape Town.
This week, Korean foodie creator @thatfoodieyewonzie stopped by to try a few of the treats from MiFei, one of the market’s traders bringing handmade Asian sweets and snacks into the rhythm of the market.
Everything is made in small batches, carefully prepared, and impossible to eat just one of.

A reminder that the market is not only about familiar flavours but also about discovering new ones.
With thanks to @thatfoodieyewonzie for the beautiful video.
And to Jessica Yang, from @mifeibakery for keeping the snack queue very much alive.

There are just three more night markets left before we take our winter pause at the end of May.

So if you’ve been meaning to come by on a Wednesday night, consider this your sign.
We have a happy hour from 4 to 5pm.

From wool to work, empowering lives one stitch at a time: the story of Blankets from Africa.
Some projects begin with a business idea.
Others begin with witnessing something really difficult and deciding not to look away.
When Ros Bechet returned to Graaff-Reinet, the small Karoo town where much of her childhood was spent, she found a place that had changed deeply over time.
Unemployment was widespread. Poverty had settled into everyday life.
And behind it all was a quieter reality: women trying to hold families together with very little support.
That visit stayed with her.
So she started with what already belonged to the land: wool and mohair from the Karoo.
Naturally dyed. Locally sourced. Worked slowly by hand.
What began as a small initiative has since grown into a network of more than 200 women across South Africa, creating blankets, knitwear, mohair pieces and handmade garments for Blankets from Africa.
Every stitch carries something larger within it: dignity, purpose, income and hope.
Today, these pieces make their way from the Karoo to the Oranjezicht City Farm Market carrying with them the hands, stories and livelihoods behind each thread.
Wednesday: 4pm – 9:30pm (until end May)
Saturday: 8am – 2:30pm
Sunday: 8:30am – 2:30pm

Simple ingredients. One pan. A meal that feels right for this time of year.
Right now, violetto brinjals are making their way through the market: deep in colour, soft in texture, and perfect for slower cooking as the weather begins to cool.
This month, Amy turns them into a harissa brinjal shakshuka: rich, warming, and made for sharing around the table.
The brinjals soften slowly into the sauce, carrying the spice and depth of the harissa while holding their own character all the way through.
What should Amy cook next from the market? 🌿

Some stories begin with a change of pace.
Nathalie moved to Cape Town from Germany, stepping away from a corporate life in search of something quieter, more grounded.
Here, she adopted a dog, Ringo, who changed her life.
What followed was a need for well-made essentials for him. Something that didn’t quite exist yet.
So she started making them, in her garage, alongside Gift, her gardener.
That was the beginning of Chommies.
Over time, it grew.
The team expanded, but many of the early hands are still part of it today, shaping what the brand has become.
At the market, that story continues in small, familiar ways.
Dogs gathering at the stall.
Returning faces.
Moments that feel less like transactions, and more like rituals.
Moments built around something shared: a love for animals.
Here, dogs are not an afterthought, they’re part of the rhythm of the day.
You’ll find Chommies at the Oranjezicht City Farm Market 🐶
