Amir, congratulations on an extraordinary exhibition. Seeing your film within that space was genuinely breathtaking â the way it resonated with the installation felt almost fated, as though it had been made precisely for that moment, that room, that conversation. The kind of alignment you simply cannot manufacture.
From Howard to UCSD to Tulsa, and now this â you are living proof that the leap is always worth it. What youâve built, and the courage it took to build it, is inspiring. Iâm so grateful I got to witness this chapter before it closed.
The horizon ahead of you is wide open. Canât wait to see what you do next. đđ˝đ¤
Blessings,
Lisa

đŁ These men might think theyâre living their greatest fantasy by photographing me naked in my bedroom, but in reality, Iâm living mine - to write myself into the canon of photography as a queer artist of color. đŁ
Itâs pleasure to share pics from a long, full and fun week in San Francisco for an exhibition @saintjosephsartsfoundation . Thank you @ohhh_so_sirius for believing in my art and putting me in this show. Thanks @martinjaystrickland for all your work toward making this come together. Thank you @meghan_zzz for flying from New York to moderate the artist talk! Thank you to the participating artists who put their hearts and souls into what they do. Thanks to everyone who crouched into my cabinet. And thanks to the 100 people who came to see us on stage?!?! Finding bursts of joy right now is hard, but itâs there, and necessary.
âThe Recompense for the Righteousâ is a group exhibition curated by Oakland- and Cleveland-based artist and educator Charles Lee. It features photography, performance, sculpture, video, and installation works by a majority of Bay Area artists whose practices affirm the inherent right to experience pleasure, presence, and self-determinationâparticularly for those whose bodies and identities have been historically judged or marginalized by societal norms.
The exhibition responds to cultural and religious narratives that suggest joy must be deferred, earned, or denied altogether. In contrast, these artists reclaim pleasure as a vital and immediate part of being alive. Their works challenge unrealistic expectations around beauty, gender, and belongingâpressures that are only heightened today by social media, facial filters, and AI-generated images that distort perceptions of self and others.
