THIS WEEK ON THE RSD PODCAST,
SQUEEZE co-founder GLENN TILBROOK is here to discuss the band’s fantastic new album Trixies, featuring the current lineup of the beloved London, England based band bringing to life a concept album full of songs that Tilbrook and co-founder Chris Difford first wrote together over 50 years ago, well before they’d even recorded their debut album with producer John Cale. The result is arguably the band’s strongest album in decades. We also look back on Squeeze’s earlier work with Elvis Costello, reveal how The Roots played an indirect role in the band’s current lineup, and Glenn pays his respects to dear departed original drummer, Gilson Lavis.

More from the upcoming @squeezeogram album, Trixies. Recorded five decades after a teenage @glenntilbrook put down a lonely 6/8 guitar and vocal demo in the first year building a musical world with @chrisdifford . It’s been a fun privilege to unearth this collection of songs. I love this picture of the 45RPM home organ, which appears on the album quite a bit, calling you in for the ol hunt and peck with lyric sheets for two companion songs on the rack.

Devil Man started in jest. Back in 2017, I was sitting with a tiny keyboard in my lap when a friend of mine handed me a glass of whiskey. I made up the first verse and chorus, jokingly, about him in his presence and then put the keyboard down. 6 years later I thought it would be fun to try and finish it. To write the second verse, I just thought of times I’ve been led astray by someone charismatic and more self assured than I am. I’m a fairly paranoid and guarded person, but once in awhile someone slips through the cracks, picks me up and drops me off in the middle of nowhere.
