That Inner Spark, the first solo single from Víctor Partido, is out today!
Hit the link in our bio to buy and listen.
Barcelona-based singer-songwriter Víctor Partido now steps forward with his first solo release, following a widely acclaimed career fronting the band Partido—whose debut album was named Best Folk/Americana Album of 2012 by Spanish magazine Mondo Sonoro—and later as co-leader of the supergroup Riders Of The Canyon alongside Joana Serrat, Matthew McDaid, and Roger Usart. Their debut album was featured in Roddy Hart’s BBC list of the Best Albums of 2023 worldwide, as well as being awarded Best National Album of the Year by Spanish magazine Ruta 66.
Composed by Víctor Partido, with lyrics co-written with David Giménez (Joana Serrat, Riders Of The Canyon, Pumuky), That Inner Spark was produced by Giménez and co-produced by Ferran Orriols, who also contributes as an instrumentalist.
The track captures the moment when resistance fades and you begin to accept both yourself and the reality you perceive—shaped by external noise and by everything around you telling you what you should be doing at any given time.
The song unfolds within a warm, intimate folk landscape—evocative and introspective, with a serene, reflective light—carried by a melancholic fingerpicked guitar. In its final section, the arrangement gradually expands as new elements enter, including trumpet and additional textures, building a restrained crescendo that suggests a sense of hope.
That Inner Spark was mixed by engineer Alex Bush—known for his work on Damien Jurado’s The Horizon Just Laughed, In the Shape of a Storm, and Reggae Film Star—and also features his additional instrumental contributions.
It was mastered by Grammy-nominated engineer Jessica Thompson, whose credits include work with Kurt Vile, Patti Smith, and Woody Guthrie.
It’s here! Our new song ‘Iridescend’ is now available everywhere. Please watch the music video on YouTube and listen on streaming platforms. We’re extremely proud of this release and hope you enjoy it 🤍

GRAMMYs going on the grid ~ the big show. First, pay attention to the Premiere ceremony., because that room is overflowing with joy and talent and community. The GRAMMYs are a peer voted award, and it’s powerful to feel part of a community that crosses genres and geographies but shares a belief in the power of music. That was a common thread: music has always been a part of revolution, of social change, of ritual and ceremony. We need it now as much as ever (and we need each other too).
My daughter was my GRAMMYs date, and said to me as we walked the red carpet, “people work really hard to earn a place at the GRAMMYs.” 😭 Nothing more important that imparting that message - this community works hard, pushes boundaries, has something to say and finds a way to say it. We honor and celebrate our peers in music.
Side note: I didn’t read much news during GRAMMY week, and, though I do try to stay informed, I absolutely did not miss the constant pings of hyped up news bits. We can stay informed and be present in our communities without exposing ourselves to the digital barrage. Also, it’s okay (even advisable?!) to rock comfy shoes on the red carpet.
Also, with love to Bad Bunny, I should have taken more photos.
GRAMMY week going on the grid. For you touring musicians, maybe 5 straight nights (and days) of parties is a cakewalk, but I am TIRED and tbh really happy to be back in my cozy studio today. However, what an epic week of celebration! Kicked off with Women in the Mix at GRAMMY House and the Producers & Engineers celebration (where my longtime mentor and friend Sarah Register and I showed up twinning). We honored Kirk Franklin, Brandy, and Pharrell at the Black Music Collective Honors. We fêted Mariah Carey and raised money for MusiCares. And got to hear Taylor Momsen and Foo Fighters interpret a song from Mariah’s legendary unreleased grunge record.
The Special Merit Awards is my personal fave - a place to honor a lifetime of contributions to music for performers, songwriters, engineers, producers, photographers, technical innovations and more. This year, the Technical GRAMMY was award to John Chowning for his discovery and development of the FM Synthesis algorithm, which expanded the vocabulary of digital music exponentially. His tech is heard in nearly every pop hit of the 1980s and beyond. So cool to see him get his flowers.

When a song hits harder decades after it was written, you know the songwriter captured the power of words and melody. Woody Guthrie wrote Deportee as a protest song following the 1948 plane wreck in Los Gatos, CA in which the lives of 28 migrant farm workers were lost. This version was recorded by Woody himself in his living room. You can hear him testing out rhythm, pacing, delivery. This is the first release from a forthcoming collection, Woody at Home, Vol 1 & 2, out August 14 on @shamusrecords .
For decades, the Guthrie family felt these tapes were too poor quality for release. It was my honor and privilege to restore these recordings so we can all hear Woody at his most intimate, dog barks, kids’ laughter, chair squeaks, traffic noise and all.
Fun fact for my engineer friends: I used primarily two tools on these recordings: an AI-driven stem separation tool, and gain, for manually fixing residual hum and recording mishaps.

Restoration and mastering by me
It’s been just over a year since I moved into my purpose-built mastering studio, and, let me tell you, the light and the windows and the proximity to my yard and the flexibility to work on a weekend if I’m feeling it and the company of my dogs and the ability to build and design exactly what I need (and nothing more) in a mastering studio is a real effing dream come true. Happy Saturday! I’m going to clean and digitize some vinyl for upcoming reissue projects and enjoy some fresh air and sunshine.
