A project from this winter with the Xwisten Band in Lillooet. Xwisten monitors the salmon populations and habitat quality on the Bridge River. This past winter they contacted me to assist in opening multiple side channels that have been plugged with sediment that has been deposited by the upper dam on the river. There are many sites also affected by past mining in the river. These side channels are essential for spawning and rearing habitat for juveniles. With the spider we were able to access the head of the side channels by crawling the machine up the dry beds and accessing from the slope on the side of the river. Another very successful project. Back in the fall when water levels reached record lows in the Fraser. We were called in for emergency work with Department of Fisheries. The Lillooet fish ladder built back in the 1940’s was unable to supply fish passable due to low water levels. We were able to access a small side channel and hammer a few steps into the bedrock to assist fish passage on this area. We had immediate improvements after day one and day two was touch ups. The helicopter dropped approximately 25 bags in the side channel to increase water height to over come this obstacle. The bags were removed this past winter before freshet. Another pole location up the Carpenter Lake corridor. This was a tricky one to access but conveniently there was enough material at the bottom of the cliff to build a ramp. This was a fun location with a great view.
