Guess who’s here…
Geopier! These are the deeply installed rammed aggregate piers that will stiffen our soil and support our footings and foundations. Next up this spring and summer, concrete and steel!
This is going to be a special one. NPR Tiny Desk alum Jake Blount is coming to the Robin Theatre on Saturday at 2pm for an engagement you won’t forget. Jake is a scholar and performer of Black folk music. “In defiance of genre categories, revisionist histories and linear time, Blount fashions an “Afrofuturist folklore” that disintegrates the boundaries between acoustic and electric, artist and medium, and ancestor and progeny.” Jake was also an integral part of the score for Sinners!
Lansing’s own Samuela Mouzaoir and Micah Ling will be on a panel with Jake after he plays a set and to share and discuss some of his beautiful music videos.
Live music has been in CCFF’s DNA from Day 1. It’s still hard to believe how many times the festival caught lightning in a bottle and had artists perform who were right on the cusp of breaking out. Search for the “CCFF Alums” playlist on Spotify and hear for yourself. As we continue to build the Ovation, you’ll see us in the community supporting live music at many events like Pride, Juneteenth, Hispanic Heritage Fest, and Dam Jam. But CCFF is very close to our hearts because we know the Ovation will also become a permanent venue for the festival. This year’s Sweet 16 schedule is particularly strong, and there is still plenty of music and films left to enjoy throughout the weekend. See you out there! ccff.co
Peeking from the recording studio control room into the Vocal Booth(right) and Live Room A (left). Yes, that means there is a Live Room B, and they’re all linked. You can put your horn section or your grumpy drummer in there 👀
We’ve never found so much joy in elevator pits, steel beams, or drywall mud as we have this week. That K13 sound insulation though? Always a fan 😘 We are on the way!
The live room, control room, and vocal booth are all taking shape in the recording studio. We have exciting things planned for this space, can’t wait to share it with everyone in 2026!
