Bringing an old girl home. This plug will never swim, it’s a Masterlure from the mid 1950s, but when I received it from my mom on Father’s Day I knew I’d have to bring it down to the water for a last sniff and a photo. I think it’s pretty cool how little has changed in the world of custom wooden plugs, but in my opinion, Masterlure changed the game as far as paint goes. These plugs are beautiful, timeless and quintessentially classic - but would still be sought after if made today. Gotta love that. New video/blog up now. My Fly25 (info on blog) challenge has been a really slow start. I just had my first decent fish this week, it's been a serious grind. However, I learned a lot this past weekend at a spot I've fished many times before. Chiefly among them, I was reminded again that sometimes doing "nothing" is better than doing "something". The fish really seemed to respond only if I dead drifted my fly- no stripping it. This is the great thing about fly fishing- that tactic is easy. I've been sitting on the video I just put on YouTube for a while (since early May), and given last weekend's experience, I figured now was a great time to finally finish it and post it. Enjoy!
