What happens when an ancient craft meets contemporary urban style?
What happens when a technique learned from your grandmother as a child is reimagined through the aesthetics of today?
The result is a collection of sculptural T-shirts designed by Outer and hand-stitched by the designer in her art studio and store in Collingwood, Melbourne, Australia.
Each piece carries the memory of traditional craft, transformed into contemporary wearable art.
You can find them:
— At the Design by Outer online store (link in bio)
— At the Outer art studio in Collingwood
Or even better — book a workshop and learn how to make your own (link in bio).

Thanks so much to the talented artists and crafters who attended my Texturing Textiles workshop last weekend.
It was a true pleasure to share my art space, skills, and experience with you all.
I’m excited to see this centuries-old technique continue to evolve and be reimagined through contemporary minds and hands.
The next workshop takes place next weekend (Sat 16 May) — a few spots are still available.

I’ve just finished the first draft of a novel.
I’ve always lived inside literature—as an avid reader first. The writing arrived unexpectedly last year, while I was translating the words of José Saramago into cloth during an art residency in Portugal @cortex.frontal —a work suspended somewhere between text and textile.
Before this, my writing belonged to another world: over 100 articles and book chapters shaped within the discipline of urban sustainability. Structured, analytical, precise.
This—this is something else entirely.
Stepping into fiction felt like loosening a tight seam. Letting threads wander. Following them without knowing where they would lead.
The project began with a seed of an idea—“a crow among the peacocks”—and a critical gaze shaped by six years on the edge of the fashion industry.
It didn’t stay contained for long. It grew, shifted, unraveled, and rewove itself into something far larger than I had imagined.
And the mask?
One of those rare, perfect accidents. A neighbour in my art collective—a costume designer @edithkunzer —had it resting on a mannequin the moment I walked into her studio to talk about the book.
Of course, I borrowed it.
It’s beside me now.
And yes—we talk.

a store, a studio, a place to meet.
As the opening, some catering with small bites and drinks will be available.
