Photography started with me buying a camera not knowing how to turn it on, take a photo, or edit correctly. Throughout the years I just learned from other photographers and watching videos. Now I’m at point in my life where this became a “brand” and I’m still not sure I believe that but seeing my first shirt made me tear up but seeing someone else wear made me smile. I’m still working on them.. doing my research on the best quality shirts and making a website separate from my photography. I appreciate the people who supported me with this and I appreciate the people who loved the logo we are starting with. You get what you put in. Haven Captures still has a lot to grow. Last year, I put the idea in my head that I would go see @twentyonepilots in London. Even having that thought surprised me. I’m also surprising myself by posting these photos and videos. Usually, I only post work from my camera. Somewhere along the way, I separated my personal account from my work account so much that I convinced myself iPhone photos weren’t worth sharing. But I’m trying to build the habit of seeing my phone as a tool too. Sometimes the moment matters more than the quality of the camera. “Pressure doesn’t change people, it reveals them.” April tested me. I’ve been moving different lately, stepping into spaces I didn’t expect and balancing everything in a way that’s not always clean. Our big event is this Friday and it’s strange, I don’t feel that usual urgency. Maybe it’s confidence. Maybe I’m just tired. Either way, I know the work is gonna speak for itself. The kids been calling me a traitor not seeing them like before… that part hits. I miss them. I hope they know that. Money has been tight this month, just saving and handling what needs to be handled. No extras. But it’s setting something up. Got trips lined up later this year and finally starting to see Santa Monica apartment listings pop up. That next chapter is getting real. Creatively, I feel the shift. Concert photography has been on my mind. Appreciation to Kanoa and Hippie HxA for trusting me with their vision. Seeing my work used for marketing and covers is still crazy to me. Been reaching out to more artists too, we’ll see what doors open. I worked for this. I built something out of nothing. I made myself necessary. And if it ever gets taken away, I’ll build it again. Always learning, sometimes teaching. . . Not every battle is meant for you to fight. March was a weird month. Not in a dramatic way, just in the quiet, stressful, overthinking kind of way. I’ve been dealing with something. The kind of situation where you know your value, but your title says otherwise. For a while it lived in my head more than I’d like to admit. Stress when I hear his voice. Anger I keep to myself. Staying busy. Staying quiet. And somewhere in the middle of all of that, I realized something. Sometimes trying to help, fix, or prove yourself does more harm than good. Sometimes the solution is to step back and stay in your lane. So I shifted my energy. Instead of pouring it into frustration, I started pouring it into film projects. Shooting behind the scenes, learning, growing, creating. Just being happy to be there and to keep getting better. March wasn’t just about the problems. It was about the solution. Still learning. This was my first time ever attending a car event like this, and it was absolutely thrilling. I wish I had discovered it sooner, but after seeing the email about not getting a media pass, I almost let that discourage me. I’m really glad I went anyway. Experiencing the car culture in person and capturing some shots from the stands made it all worth it. Maybe I’ll get that media pass next time. @hotpitautofest . . Sometimes you outgrow a season before the season ends. February didn’t overstay its welcome, but it still felt weird. I’ve been working and showing up, but also noticing everything. The inconsistencies. The shifts. The changes. I tell myself I shouldn’t care because they’re not my boss, but I do care. I care about the coworkers I’ve built real rapport with. I care about the kids and not always knowing how to answer their questions about adults who were here and are now gone. At the same time, I saw February as a rebuild for Haven Captures. A few people reached out to work with me. The thoughts about creating my own videos again have been getting louder. Once coaching wraps up, that feels very doable. I’m also looking forward to getting more time back. More time with my nieces and nephew. More time to build. More time to create. February was okay, but I can feel pieces moving in my life and that part excites me. Onto March. #haven #havencaptures #photography #work #life
