We’re sharing this to clarify what really happened on the morning of Sunday, 27th July 2025, in Cherating, Kuantan. Too many false stories have been spreading, and as eyewitnesses, we feel responsible to set the record straight.
Let’s be clear: the three men had no good intentions. What they did was cruel and unacceptable.
A sea turtle had come ashore, most likely to nest. It was a peaceful moment until three men approached her. At first, we thought they might be part of a conservation team. But what happened next was shocking.
They blocked her path, pushed her back, and then lifted her away from the shoreline. One of them can be seen knocking and hitting her shell, seemingly trying to force her to lay eggs. The turtle was clearly struggling and trying to return to the sea, but they refuse to let her go. It was heartbreaking to witness.
The way they treated her made us wonder — how often does this happen? How many turtles come ashore only to be abused or never return to the sea? Conservationists call them Penyu Terbang, turtles that vanish without a trace.
We quickly alerted the campsite owners and, with help from others, demanded her release. Thankfully, under pressure, they let her go and she returned to the ocean.
Our videos show exactly what happened. And the question remains: why treat a protected, endangered animal this way? Sadly, the answer is likely profit, they were after her eggs.
Later, after talking to other campers and locals, we found out this isn’t uncommon. During nesting season, people come in the dark to steal eggs and not much is being done to stop it. It’s all happening quietly, and it’s taking a toll on the turtle population.
Let this post be a wake-up call. Sea turtles can’t speak for themselves, but we can, and we must. If this continues, they will stop coming. They’ll no longer see this as a safe place to nest, and once that trust is broken, they may never return. We sincerely hope the authorities will step in to strengthen protection efforts. And to the public: please don’t stay silent. Speak up, report any form of animal abuse, silence only allows it to continue.
