Our Own, in partnership with The Play Equity Fund, has created a first-of-its-kind Recovery Center at City Honors International Preparatory School in Inglewood, California.
Featuring the latest recovery technology and Pilates equipment, along with digital wearables, the Recovery Center is a space for those who find wellness through sport to maximize their potential. For other students, it becomes a platform to learn fitness techniques to develop a healthier lifestyle.
The Recovery Center continues Play Equity’s mission of creating access to sport and play for all children, regardless of their race, gender, zip code, or socioeconomic status. It reaffirms IUSD’s commitment to implementing innovative health & wellness programming in their schools with partners like Our Own. We look forward to growing our collective missions and empowering the community.

BEFORE & AFTER | This is how you reimagine a Wellness Space for our youth. There were actual humans who said they didn’t see the vision for such a space. We got the usual…they’re just going to mess it up, it’s too much money per student, or why not do something outside! So we listened to everyone’s thoughts and politely did the opposite. How did we do?

This is the obligatory “we made OUR OWN seat at the table” line for the cool kids.
People will always doubt your readiness, your plan, and your process… and that is okay. Let them!!! What matters is that these young women never wavered. We gave them a goal, and in return they gave us their heart.
They showed up with consistency, stayed open to learning, and pushed through every mile. This was about finishing what they started. Proof that hard things can be done. Because faith without work… well, you get the picture.
Everybody can eat at this table if you’re willing to show up hungry. Here’s to the women who ate those miles 🤏🏽🤏🏽 and are coming back for more.

“All I need is the love of my crew…”
All heart, no ego, no second-guessing…just love, support, unity and a community coming together to help our young ladies reach the finish line strong. Grateful for each and every one of you. Truly the best group we could’ve had. Love always. Run Up®
Ken’Niyia (Yah Yah) comes from a lineage of Dorsey Dons athletes, and every time she steps on the track, she lives up to the name. They call her the GOAT for a reason. She’s in love with the process…the early mornings, the tough days, and every small win along the way. That’s what built her.
She doesn’t just run, she embraces the journey. Every practice, every challenge, every mile adds to her story. A freshman sprinter who tried cross country for the first time this school year, she quickly rose above the competition. She had never run more than three miles before the run to Vegas…now she’s chasing goals most wouldn’t dare to set.
Growth lives outside of comfort. She’s driven, focused, and grounded. She loves her mom and carries that strength with her everywhere she goes. 🐐
Different level. Different mindset. 🏁

LA—>Sloan—>Vegas
Sloan got that quiet consistency and sneaky grit, but don’t let the goofiness fool you. Headphones in = game on.
Saying yes to this race as a short-distance track runner who had never taken on a long race before, Sloan still showed up and proved she can do both.
She’ll grind through every mile, smile through the chaos, and somehow still be ready to film a TikTok at the end.
As you can see, she’s surrounded by family who show up big because she does, too ❤️. Yeah Sloan!!!

Maddison went from dancer to runner, taking a path that’s been anything but straight. Through fear, setbacks, and injuries, this 9th grader kept showing up until she found her groove.
Whether she’s running to her favorite music or chatting miles away with her cousin Allison, every step tells a story of resilience and growth.
This race almost didn’t happen for her though. The back-and-forth, the doubt, the “should I or shouldn’t I?” (and let’s be honest… who signs up to run to Vegas? 😂). But the moment she decided, she was all in. Because when Maddison locks in, she locks in. 🔥

Allison is shy, hella goofy, and loves a good aesthetic moment, but don’t let that fool you. As a 9th grader, she’s one of the most courageous people you’ll ever meet.
She might flinch at lizards crossing her path, but she never lets fear win. Mile after mile, she quietly turned doubt into determination. Natural born aura!
From her take off to the final stretch of this relay, she kept showing up and finished strong with a 7-mile run, while calmly FaceTiming her family to share just how far she’s come.

Destiny is a 10th grader who is nothing short of a pure athlete. She’s always found herself through soccer, where her love for sport first took root.
A reluctant runner at first, her curiosity was sparked by one question: “Who would run to Las Vegas?” Still, that didn’t stop her from joining the team.
Through training and race day, Destiny battled injuries but never let them define her. She showed up, pushed through, and gave every mile she had.
Her resilience is top tier, and her ability to carry joy through every step is what makes her special.
You can’t be what you can’t see.

Kaien kicked things off, running the first leg from Santa Monica to Las Vegas and then taking on the start of the final 37-mile stretch from the state line to the finish line. The oldest on the team, a high school senior balancing school, work, and training, often on her own. Early and late shifts at In-N-Out, solo runs, still showing up. No spotlight, just discipline. Support is there, but the work is hers.
As if that wasn’t impressive enough, she just got into her dream school. She’ll be heading to UCLA this fall 🙌🏽. Brains, grit, and big goals. Huge congratulations to this superstar scholar! Let’s hope she doesn’t forget about us little folks over here lol. 🇧🇿
