🤝 On the Move's Board: Change of Co-leadership
“It is an honour to continue the work initiated by Bojana and Stéphane over the past three years, alongside the committed On the Move Board and its devoted members. Now more than ever, we must defend and protect the multifaceted dimensions of cultural mobility in a fast evolving worldwide context.”, Ika Sienkiewicz-Nowacka & Giuliana Ciancio, On the Move Board’s newly appointed President and Secretary of On the Move’s Board.
On the Move’s General Assembly was held shortly after this year’s Cultural Mobility Forum in Skopje. It acknowledged the end of Bojana Panevska and Stéphane Segreto-Aguilar's successful mandates (respectively President and Secretary for the past three years), as well as Lissa Kinnaer's mandate as administrator.
Ika Sienkiewicz-Nowacka and Giuliana Ciancio were announced as the new President and Secretary of the On the Move Board. Sebastian Hoffmann was also elected as a new Board member.

Skopje, April 2026. The ASSEMBLE team gathered at the @otm.network Cultural Mobility Forum - and it was the moment the partnership truly came alive in person.
Over two days, we joined organisations, researchers and advocates working at the intersection of displacement, mobility and culture. The conversations were real and urgent: from visa barriers and emergency support to what long-term integration in a new cultural ecosystem actually looks like - and who gets to define it.
Our partners @d6_eu_ and @movartists shared their experience building safe and supportive environments for at-risk and displaced arts professionals - from emergency hosting through to sustained creative practice across borders.
At the Long Table "Safe Havens: Artist Residencies in Turbulent Times", the questions went deeper: who controls the invitation? How do we better protect artist mobility? What more can the cultural sector actually do?
At the Long Table "Mobility Justice - Invisible No More", the room asked who remains invisible in cultural mobility systems - and why.
It was also the moment we introduced ASSEMBLE to the At-Risk and Displaced Artists Working Group - and held our first in-person partner meeting as a full team.
And soon - our Fellows.
ASSEMBLE is an international cultural project exploring the climate emergency at the intersection of involuntary migration, displacement, conflict and ecological decline.
Funded by the European Union, ASSEMBLE is realised through a partnership between @d6_eu_ (CY), @congress.of.cultural.activists (UA), @movartists (ES) and the international mobility network @otm.network , with associated partners @larnaka2030 (CY), @d6culture (UK) and @atriskartists (FR).

Two days. Countless conversations and action.
From discussions on visas, inequality and access, to cultural visits across the city and moments of exchange beyond the programme, this edition of the Forum reminded us that mobility isn't only about movement.
It is also about conditions that allow people, ideas and artistic practices to connect sustainably and equitably.

On the second day of the Cultural Mobility Forum 2026, participants stepped outside the conference rooms and into the city itself 👏
Through a series of cultural visits and curated discussions in Skopje 🇲🇰 everyone had the time to explore the spaces, initiatives and communities that make the local arts scene today!
From independent cultural centres to performance spaces, these encounters opened conversatioms on resilience, solidarity, collaboration and the everyday realities of working in arts and culture in Southeast Europe.
1️⃣ Moving through the city together also became a way to reflect on mobility in its purest meaning: not only as international travel, but as access and connections that make cultural participation possible.
2️⃣ We have no words to thank all the local organisations and artists who welcomed everyone and shared their work and stories! 🙏

In one week, the Cultural Mobility Forum gathers in Skopje, North Macedonia, a city shaped by layered histories, regional solidarities and artistic resilience. Hosting the Forum here is not just symbolic, but it’s relevant too.
As conversations on cultural mobility justice unfold, we’ll also look at how mobility inequalities also impact Southeast Europe and how local cultural actors are redefining autonomy, solidarity and exchange.
