Let us set the scene. It's Homecoming 1926, and a group of students from Ohio State's College of Agriculture pull off a feat for the history books — electing a cow as the university's Homecoming Queen.
100 years later, we're celebrating the return of Queen Maudine and a century of tradition and progress for our college.

Alvaro García-Guerra, associate professor, cattle reproduction and production systems management, @osuansci@osucfaes , has been awarded a 2026-2027 Fulbright U.S. Scholar award to Australia to research “Remote sensing of bull mounting to improve reproductive efficiency for beef ranchers.”
From January – July 2027, García-Guerra will work alongside Mark Trotter and his colleagues on the Precision Livestock Management team at @cquniversity Australia Institute for Future Farming Systems to develop and validate wearable sensor technologies (accelerometers and GPS) to remotely monitor bull mounting behavior. This technology will enable continuous assessment of reproductive performance and help collect data to improve efficiency in beef cattle production systems.
García-Guerra’s @the_fulbright_program project is grounded in a longstanding collaboration between Ohio State’s Department of Animal Sciences and Central Queensland University. García-Guerra and Trotter have been collaborating since Trotter came to Ohio State to carry out a Visting Fulbright Scholar project in 2019.

“It was so important for me to go abroad because I wanted to experience a new world. Italy’s culture emphasizes the pleasure of life, and I wanted to experience a slower lifestyle while still learning important concepts for school,” reflected Brielle Bomsta, an environmental policy and decision making major who participated in the Sant’Anna Institute Program in Sorrento, Italy this semester.
During the spring semester, Bomsta took classes in Italy and worked at a marine biology, conservation and communications internship, developing skills for her future career as well as broadening her cultural awareness 🇮🇹

It was a great opportunity for graduate students Aradhana, Munna, and Lalit to introduce soil science to the young scientists who visited our stand. 👩🔬👨🔬
The Soil Fertility and Health Laboratory (Dr. Rakkar), Weeds lab (Dr. Eugene) Soil Mineralogy Laboratory (Dr. Demyan) and CMSC (Dr. Lal) were well represented 🪨🔬
The CFAES Rattan Lal Center for Carbon Management and Sequestration has launched a new partnership with the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) and the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), both in India. Beginning this year, the exchange program will welcome four scholars annually from these esteemed institutions to The Ohio State University.
The first two scholars, Ram Swaroop Bana (IARI) and Gobinder Singh (PAU), arrived in March. This initiative reflects Lal’s long‑standing commitment to nurturing the next generation of scientists and fostering international cooperation in agricultural and environmental research. The scholars will study, collaborate and conduct research under the guidance of Rattan Lal and his team.
