Designed by @hallgeirhomstvedt around a specific tension between softness and structure, the Chalé Chair is a modern reimagining of the mountain cabin chair, with an arched upholstered backrest and seat that span like a suspension over the wooden frame, expressed as soft volumes held in place by an angular structure with no visible hardware.
The deep grooves in the armrest are from wire-brushing, adding a tactile dimension whenever your arms and hands come into contact with them, creating moments of touch and discovery of the deeper wood grains.
Handcrafted in Portugal by Carlos Barbosa and António Rocha.

Weaving a chair seat happens in two stages. First, the warp is created: natural paper cord is run from the front rail to the back, with each pass wrapped around the frame rail and pulled taut. Then onto the weft: paper cord is threaded side to side in an over-under sequence, locking the warp in place and building the pattern row by row. As each new row is added, the tension compounds. The weave tightens incrementally until the surface becomes dense and unified with no single strand carrying the load, but all of them together.
Maria Adelina, a weaver in her sixties, has been doing this since she was eleven. The seat of the Almada Chair is entirely her work; her hands rough and seasoned from the weaving, her experience and diligence showing in the tautness of the surface and the consistency of the pattern from edge to edge.

The intricate weave pattern of the Almada Chair is the result of conversation and experimentation between @gabrieltandesign , artist/restaurateur Lian Ng and weaving craftswoman Maria Adelina. With a weave that is strong structurally and also beautiful to look upon, the simple and sturdy solid wood frame brings to the fore the woven texture and skilled handcraft of paper cord weaving.
Initially created for @marimakanporto located on Rua do Almada in Porto, hence the name, the Almada Chair is now part of Origin Made's main collection and available in four different wood finishes.

The Spiral Sculpture by @normarchitects unites a trilogy of elements: classical architecture reinterpreted into modern design, the precision of skilled stonemasons in hand-polishing intricately carved details, and the beauty of raw travertine stone. Naturally occurring geological patterns in the travertine ensure no two are identical.

There is no margin for error in carving out the stepped profiles of the Spiral Sculpture designed by @normarchitects .
Roman Travertine is porous and unpredictable. From selecting the right block of stone to work with, to getting the steps even across a curved surface, takes the kind of knowledge that does not just come from instruction, but from years of getting it wrong before getting it right. Control of the grinder requires steady hands and sharp eyes, human tools that stonemason Emanuel Matos has spent decades training to a precise standard.

At Pedro Eira's factory in northern Portugal, where his family has laboured with stone for generations, longtime stonemason Emanuel Matos, who has been working alongside Pedro for over 20 years, handles the finishing touches with great finesse, shaping the Spiral Sculptures precisely from blocks of raw travertine.
Origin Made's Spiral and Flight sculptures, designed by @normarchitects , are produced here, in small batches, usually made to order.

@shane_schneck designed Jug as a beautiful presence on the table or kitchen countertop; a visual reminder to fill from the tap, to drink what is local, and to skip buying water that comes in plastic bottles.
Porcelain keeps water cool without refrigeration. The upright profile borrows from Portuguese pitchers of the past. The handle loops high and wide for a full and comfortable grip and the generous spout pours cleanly.
Jug is available in white or terracotta; matte on the outside, glazed within.

João Monteiro runs his porcelain workshop in Palhaça, near Aveiro. His father ran it before him. The shelves hold decades of moulds of plaster positives and negatives for pieces that they work on; shapes that the workshop has cast hundreds of times.
Fátima has been here for over thirty years, mixing glaze by hand, with no other tools except a soft brush for corrections; everything else is done with bare hands.
Márcio, the youngest, learned everything about the slipcasting process by working closely beside João for the past eight years: when to pour, how long to wait, how to release a form from its mould without cracking the walls.
The finished Jug gets checked on a turntable. Handle seams and pouring lip cleaned, surface smoothed. Designer @shane_schneck designed Jug as a study in functional design, meant to stay on the table as an object of beauty, and as a daily reminder to keep oneself well hydrated.

Slip casting is how Jug gets made. João Monteiro runs a small workshop in Palhaça, near Aveiro, a place his father owned before him. The process starts with slip, a slurry of clay and water mixed to the right consistency akin to heavy cream, then poured into two-part plaster moulds that absorb moisture, creating precise, thin-walled ceramic that is allowed to harden. Any excess clay is cleaned off before firing.

The Âncora Candle Holder was designed by @christianhaasporto with a dual cavity: flip it for the candlestick to sit higher or lower. On a table, a pair that is set at different heights breaks the symmetry just enough for added visual interest.
Âncora means anchor in Portuguese. And you see this in its form: the curved and tapered shaft abstracts the form down to its essential lines. Sandcast aluminium, pitted and semi-polished, its surface holds texture from the mould: small imperfections that catch light and show proof of the crafting process.
Âncora is functional when holding lit candles, and sculptural when standing by itself; a worthwhile companion for homes.

The Âncora Candle Holder by @christianhaasporto sits on a workshop shelf in Porto, its solid aluminium form still raw from fabrication and before it receives its buffing and polishing.
The Porto workshop where Paulo Martins, Alberto Cunha, and Ricardo Valente work doesn't look like much from the outside or even on the inside. Yet, a wealth of metalworking knowledge fills the space.
The stations are positioned around the factory floor, machines and tools within easy reach of the metal craftsmen who need them. The three divide the labour. One fabricates. One spins and machines. And one buffs, polishes and finishes each piece.

With over half a century of metalwork between them, metalsmiths Paulo Martins, Alberto Cunha, and Ricardo Valente split the work between them: fabrication, spinning, machining, and polishing. Each step passes through different hands, different stations in the same room.
Here, Ricardo is making cavities in the solid cast aluminium forms of the Âncora Candle Holder designed by @christianhaasporto , which will eventually hold candlesticks.
