Our first release is "water the teeth," the debut album by orchiddBB. "water the teeth," written between 2021 and 2024, hyperfixates on the early challenges of gender transition in the wake of complex trauma. Using a unique instrumental palette (soprano voice, violin, electric bass, and percussion) and novel musical strategies (a hand-signaled system, text to speech, dense instrumental passages), orchiddBB weaves a disorienting, vibrant, and cathartic fabric.

"heel" is an especially hard task to train your hound to do. imagine a kaleidescope of scents that are perceived through a nose that accounts for 70% of your face. you have ears built to waft the earth's perfume directly into your nostrils... but then, the people who give you all of your food & shelter are begging for you to walk in lockstep with them. a matter of inches determine whether you will be asked to do it again.
i think i got a year or so left in the tank at this pace and then you'll see me once a decade. i'll look 30-50 years younger each time and i'll be alongside an ever-expanding clique of familiars. the new Me drops in june; she sucks to be around (clearly).

OUT TODAY. 🌊🦷 I am so incredibly proud to announce the release of water the teeth, the brilliant new album from orchidBB that I had the honor of producing here at Holy Fang.
Led by the absolute visionary drummer Orchid McRae, this record is a masterclass in cutting-edge free jazz. It’s a complex, hallucinatory amalgamation of frantic urban sketches and completely spaced-out free time drops. The ensemble-featuring Jen Sapiro on vocals, Vivek Menon bringing both noise and funk on the violin, and Mario Fontes anchoring the chaos on electric bass-is just on another level.
We captured some real lightning in the bottle. It was tracked almost entirely LIVE in the room, barring a couple of minor overdubs. Just real, brilliant musicians reacting to each other in space time.
Turn it up, bear down, and let it bake your brain a bit.

News. We are starting a new label. It’s called @permanent__press .
We’ve helped operate and curate @brotherswashanddry for the last year and a half (alongside fellow Laundronauts Sampson Hollander, Gían Pérez, and Selendis Sebastian Alexander Johnson). In that time, we have heard and witnessed a gathering of community that supports each other through every sonic landscape imaginable.
So what is “Permanent Press”? In short, we heard all of this music and decided it needed a centralized place to be heard, interrogated, and understood. To that end, we are launching a new label dedicated to the new, the strange, and the undefinable.
Permanent Press’ releases are on the horizon and visible from the current day. In February, orchiddBB will release their album, “water the teeth”. More new music from others in our community will follow.
Follow this space for updates. Our washing machine doesn’t have a name yet either, in case you’re wondering.
