Hi everybody! Two weeks from yesterday, on Friday June 18th, Bandcamp is doing a special Bandcamp Friday in honor of Juneteenth, where they will be donating their revenue share from any purchases made that day to the NAACP legal defense fund.
Because of that i feel like its a good time to announce the upcoming release of a bunch of beats i’ve been working on for the last few months. Making this stuff has been really therapeutic for me, and i wanted to figure out a way to pay that forward, especially as a white artist making music pioneered by black artists.
SO, on Friday June 11th, one week in advance of that special Bandcamp Friday, i’m gonna release my 4th collection of beats. It’s priced at $1 with the option to pay more if you so desire, and I will be donating any and ALL proceeds from this release to the NAACP legal defense fund, perpetually.
To clarify, you can buy these beats anytime you desire, and I will donate my whole share of that profit to the NAACP. Additionally, if you wait to purchase until June 18th, Bandcamp will donate their share as well.
I’m really proud of this project, and I can’t wait to share it with people. Thanks for reading, thanks as always for listening, and thanks in advance for helping to support a really important cause.
I barely post on social media anymore because I have a lot of feelings about its effects on me and on our society, and because frequently using it triggers anxiety in me. That’s why you haven’t seen posts from me in recent days.
HOWEVER
This is an incredibly privileged position to be able to have, because it’s not a life or death issue for me like it is for so many.
Therefore I’m not gonna say much else except BLACK LIVES MATTER. We live in a country which has systemically oppressed, imprisoned, and killed black people for as long as it has existed. It simply has to stop. I’m trying to listen, to learn, and to be better in every way I can. I have a long way to go. To my white friends, colleagues, family members: please sign petitions, please donate, please don’t be silent like I was, even when its hard. Its time for us to do our part.
To everybody who’s listened in 2019, thank you so much. It was a weird year for me and my music in a lot of ways, and I didn’t put out nearly as much music this year as I would have liked, but these numbers are still amazing and I appreciate anybody who’s stuck with me through the drought. Things are coming in 2020, I promise.
My copy took a day longer to ship than @isak.gaines ‘s so he beat me to the celebratory insta post but I’m hyped to finally have some of my music on a vinyl release. This is a huge project featuring work from a ton of really talented people, including some of my favorite musicians in the world. It also happens to be the first time any of my music will be out on vinyl. You can find my track at the end of side B, and I’m also stoked to say that preceding my song on the comp is one by none other than my roommate and spirit guide @isak.gaines , who sneakily made his return to insta to promote this comp too.
