✨ Hi there ✨👋 I’ve come to realise that I never talk about myself on social media, so how about an introduction and a small insight into what I do! So I’m Adrian Reid - the creative person behind Orange-ade Design & Illustration. I’m an illustrator and printmaker based at @deemouthartiststudios in Torry, Aberdeen. I specialise in creating colourful and humorous artworks that spark curiosity, allowing everyone to think, feel and smile. My creative process is fuelled and inspired by people met, stories shared, the natural world and science. My illustrative work also translates into greetings cards, wrapping paper, pin badges and other neat things. As well as keeping it fun and exciting at Orange-ade, I strive to produce great, crisp design and put proper love into every piece made with a strong, passionate focus on sustainability and researching eco-conscious alternatives. I’m also a big believer in backing fellow creatives, seeing community and collaboration over ‘competition’. 🤜🤛 Together we can make all kinds of awesome! The artwork is inspired by Aberdeen’s rich and fascinating fishing history, and where better to represent this but right by the timeless old Roundhouse at the edge of our bonnie wee fishing village - Fittie! 🚢 🌊 Thank you so much to Simon in the Asda design team for the opportunity, was really lovely working with you 😊 And of course the affa wonderful bunch at Fierce for their feedback and support. 🛠️ WORKSHOP WEEKENDER 🛠️ My first Foil Printing workshop done and dusted! 🖨️ This taster workshop was focussed around the simple, easy to use process known as “Sublimation Foiling”. Using this method my participants produced some pretty spectacular results and experimented with various foils to bring a shiny dimension to their designs. Heck, one of the quines ended up making her own set of Christmas cards ready to give out this year! It really goes to show how easy it can be to make something like this using affordable, basic home office equipment! An incredibly massive THANK YOU to all my participants for coming to learn something new. You were all in fantastic spirit throughout and came away with such amazing work!! 🪼 GLOW IN THE DARK PINS 🪼 Introducing Agnes - Agnes the Angler! She’s a looker alright, and a bit of a (non human) man eater… or rather a man absorber 😅 You’ll get what I mean when you read into the mating process of Anglerfish. This will be the first in my new series of deep sea bioluminescent creature pins! I find the biology within bioluminescence both so incredibly fascinating and beautiful! I’ve been researching this field for a wee while and have been looking for ways in which I can visually accentuate this natural wonder. ✍️✨ PROCESS ✨✍️ This is a snippet of the kinda work that goes into my Cosmos Contemplator notebooks, and generally the basis for all the work I create! For these notebooks I explored a variety of topics (wittling them down to only 3), simplified and turned them into infographics, sketched out my concepts and mapped out the design, took my sketches into #adobeillustrator to digitise, and had a wee die plate made to then finish it all with a little foiling… Phew, catch my breath 😅 I’ll be putting these into my online store, which is coming soon! 🏥 Foresterhill: Past, Present and Future🏥 It’s been a while since I’ve posted but have been working on a few smaller projects and one HUGE one in the background. This exhibition was really interesting to work on, particularly when delving into the archives around the Foresterhill and Joint Hospitals Scheme developments throughout the century - which I’ve translated into the gallery wall backdrops. 😄 It was a fantastic opportunity to work with @grampian_hospitals_art_trust and the 4 amazing artists who produced such stunning creative responses. I’ll be holding a 6 week block of screen printing evening classes at Gray’s School of Art as part of #Engage with Look Again Aberdeen! This course is built for beginners, who will delve into the wonderful process of screen printing and produce a set of hand-printed A6 postcards to take away! I’ll be taking you through step by step as you transform your ideas into amazing and colourful designs. Together we’ll be experimenting with textures and creating effective colour overlays to really make your work pop!
