Feeling concerned or confused about what’s happening to Toronto Island and the Toronto waterfront more broadly? Us too! 🌾🌕🌀
Right now, Doug Ford and the Ontario government are advancing legislation that would allow the province to take control of City of Toronto land (including Little Norway park and the Island) with the intention of expanding Billy Bishop Airport. As a result, there is serious potential for a significant loss of ecologically, historically, and artistically important land which should remain lush, public space that everyone can enjoy.
To learn more about what’s happening, why Toronto Island is such a special place, and what may be at stake as these plans move forward, we welcome expert speakers to share their perspectives. This evening will feature artistic, ecological, social, and political reflections on Toronto Island as a key public space and resource.
The free evening will also include a discussion about how people can organize, stay informed, and take action to help protect and conserve these important public spaces. **RIP Ontario Place!!!** In the words of savetorontoisland.com (& to paraphrase Ms Joni Mitchell herself) ‘Don’t pave paradise for jet parking lots’ !!
Literature needs the public, the public needs space, we all need the island!!!
