On our last episode of Capsule Convos, @missyvvana sat down with @ewusi to discuss his artistic practice and the influence of Ghanaian migration on Toronto’s arts and culture. What version of yourself do you do this for? This question is full of reflection. It is helpful to reference who you’ve been, in the process of remembering who you are. As always, hosted by @missyvvana & @totte_moii35mm 🏠 Listen via the link in our bio!

I’m going to be talking and sharing music for Echoes of a Silk Drum and maybe in more ways talk about my dad. I love him dearly, and wish we could connect about the other things I feel so passion about: 70s-80s Ghanaian Highlife. Anyways, come through to hear the ways I’m working through a relationship filled with love and fraught communication experienced over long whatsapp calls. I’ll ask, “how do you share songs in your mother tongue, when you can’t fully speak it?” and “how can I grow my relationship with my parents through the polyrhythmic funk tunes made in a country I sometimes call home?” Maybe we will find out on the dance floor, or at least through a moment of listening. Will report back, tickets in my bio and @patinapatinamag , hope to see yall!

Friday morning, 9:07 a.m. Your boss adds a 15-minute “Quick TB” meeting to your calendar. Boss: So, we’ve been doing some 360 feedback loops, and your deliverables haven’t been laddering up to our Q3 KPIs. You: Oh. Okay. Can you unpack that a bit? Boss: Absolutely. So when we look at your campaign ownership, we’re not really seeing proactive stakeholder alignment or cross-functional synergy. We see… opportunity space for growth. [laughs politely] So in the spirit of transparency, and because we’re a feedback-forward org, we’re going to loop you into a structured success framework. You: Is that... a PIP? Boss: Yes, we’re initiating a Performance Improvement Program—purely as a growth catalyst. You: A growth catalyst. Nice. So I’m... being promoted to “Needs Urgent Improvement.” Boss: Exactly! Think of it as a six-week sprint toward peak alignment. We’ll set some stretch goals, circle back weekly, and leverage your core competencies. You: On it. Anything else before I “circle back” to crying in the stairwell? I’m going out this weekend. @ewusi and @andrew___ross play @juicetoronto on Saturday.

Get to know Kevin Client. He traces music back to its roots, starting in West Africa to explore the lineage of funk, disco, and modern club sounds. Kevin marries these foundations with beatdown-driven electronic music that’s soulful, sexy, and Black. His sets honour the diaspora’s musical journey while pushing boundaries forward. Every selection tells a story of rhythm, culture, and connection—bringing ancestral grooves to contemporary dance floors with intention and soul. Catch Kevin Client playing at Home & Away on Aug 2. It has been a fruitful experience working on and sharing NSUO with y’all IRL and online. First off thank you @sandro___sp and @bustin_jella for making space for me in your homes. It means more than you think. Secondly, thank you @m.eester for bringing the space to life and @benja__music for helping me orchestrating this and pushing me to get the show going. Shout out to @homesteadceramic , @nilecoffeeclub , @tafooleh , @kenja_time , @leightonmckinleyharrell , @dieforcola , @d.avidhodgson and @kycharter for accepting my invitation and bringing your talents for everyone to feel! And of course @ericlchen who stays making this look way cooler than it is! 😤 Also also shout out to all the people that held me down, showed up, promoted, didn’t come through, bought things, asked questions, told friends, forgot about me, and dissed it. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, for real! Last but not least shout out to V, Greg, Bell, Max, Ian, River 💚 and all the folks that transitioned over in the last year. Thankful for how you have touched me in these big and small ways.
