Hi there! I’m Jen, the owner of Òr on the Isle of Skye. I thought it was time to reintroduce myself and our journey since 2016, giving a little insight into what it means to be part of our maker and artist community.

Introducing our new Alban collection🌷
Spring is a little slower to rise from its slumber here on Skye. But as night and day become of equal length once more, the promise of spring brings a steady but sure return of life and light to the island.
Translating from Gaelic to ‘light of the earth’, Alban Eilir is the inspiration behind our new collection. From handmade knits by @hilarygrantknitwear to ward off the last of winter’s chill, to terracotta pots for sowing spring bulbs by @paigemitchellx exclusive collaborations with Skye local @catrionaarchibaldmakes and many more thoughtful handmade pieces by our community of makers & artists✨

A Day Trip on Isle of Skye ☀️
For our recent photoshoot we travelled from Portree to Staffin, stopping at some favourite spots along the way which we want to share with you!

📍@birch.coffee ~ next up, we recommend a midday trip to one of our favourite cafes for coffee and brunch
📍The Old Man of Storr ~ if you’re on your way to Staffin, you can’t miss this magical landmark. Wander along the trail up to the top for beautiful views
📍The Quiraing ~ we then drove towards this famous spot to capture new product snaps against a beautiful backdrop. The dramatic cliffs and otherworldly scenery make it a must-see on Skye
📍@staffinseasauna ~ whenever we’re near this part of the island, we always recommend a dip at the sauna to take in the spectacular sea views
📍@thehungrygull ~ and finally, dinner and delicious cocktails at this wonderful eatery. The team at The Hungry Gull are always so welcoming, and we can confirm their homemade chips and Aperol spritz are excellent choices!

In the studio with Scottish artist @phoeberoze 🌷
Phoebe is an artist we’ve worked with at Òr for some years, and recently she welcomed us into her studio and showed us her favourite haunts around Edinburgh so we could see her artistic process in action!
Influenced by wanders, cycles and hikes around the Highlands, Phoebe’s work often centres on the beauty of Scotland’s landscapes – an inspiration which can be seen clearly in her new pieces for our online Alban collection.
Her playful style shies away from the assumption that Scotland is a grey, muted place, and instead brings the land to life with depth of colour.

Coastal drawing & monoprinting with @louisakthomsonstudio 💛
Join us on Sunday 24th May, from 3-6pm, for an afternoon of creativity inspired by Scottish shores🐚
Louisa is one of our talented artists at Òr who is travelling from Edinburgh to host this wonderful workshop! On the day, you’ll create a concertina sketchbook from your drawings, which will then be transformed into monoprints.
Monoprinting is where ink is applied to a smooth surface then pressed onto paper to produce a one-of-a-kind artwork.
Throughout the afternoon we’ll have plenty of homemade bakes and fizz to indulge in, as well as a few special gifts from us here at Òr to take home🎁

Handmade ceramics on the Isle of Skye💛
Our Misty Isle has long been associated with pottery. From narrow-neck ‘crogan’ pots crafted in the Hebrides during the nineteenth century to modern stoneware mugs, to hold these pieces is to speak with their maker; the individual who built, glazed and dedicated years to honing their craft.
Recently, we stepped into the local workshops of @somethingtocryaboutceramics@catrionaarchibaldmakes and @skiopottery who share the joys of crafting with clay over on our journal.

Though the weather is still unpredictable here on Skye, it’s safe to say that spring has sprung on the island. We took the opportunity to capture some of our handmade ceramics and prints amongst their inspiration, with the golden-flowered gorse as their backdrop🌼

During our recent trip to Dunvegan, we caught up with Isle of Skye ceramicist Catriona, who has created a small-batch collection of exclusive pieces for Òr.
From slip-cast porcelain wall plaques inspired by the shore near her studio, to hand-painted florals found in her spring garden, each piece is completely unique and hand-built.
